sounds like you have a short in the socket assembly...

My VW bug used to do that, and I figured out something. Because we go over bumps and bumpy roads at times, it will loosen the fuses, for "whatever" reason, it's usually the fuse that controls the blinkers! Yeah, so you might want to check that out. Otherwise, I suggest you look in the book for that particular car and year, under "troubleshooting. Hope this helped, good luck

OK one question for you? did you take your car back to the dealer to see if there is any recalls on the make and model of your car?
Friend had the same problem just a week ago and after going to the local VW dealer he found out that his car had been recalled for the same exact reason and had the problem fix free of charge.There was a recall for the problem you describe just contact a VW dealer they should be able to tell you if your car has to go in for the recall service.

I'm an import technician. I had a similar case w/ an 2001 Jetta and the fix was as simple as this... it needed a new hazard switch. Sounds odd I know but vw circuitry has the hazard switch incorporated w/ the blinders!!!

This will happen if a bulb is burned out or the flasher for the blinkers is bad!

you need a new flasher if you go into a autoparts store and tell them the year make and model of your car they will give you the correct part all you have to do is unplug the old one and plug the new one in it is located on or near your fuse panel

You need a new blinker stat,it will be pluged into your fuse box.

you have a short in your fuse area. often times just changing the fuse in the panel works

welcome to the electrical frustrations of being a volkswagen owner. i had a 2000 jetta that had endless problems with blinkers and tail lights. my new beetle has endless problems with headlights.
