I often see and hear how Christians beleive that morality would cease to exist if it were not for Jesus Christ and the Church. How does one rectify that position when it comes to people such as Mark Folley?? Here is a man who was active in Church, was the Head of the Caucus for Missing and Exploited Children - and was exploiting children.

IS Folley right for blaming his actions on the fact that he was (unproven allegation, BTW) molested as a teen by a Catholic priest?? Or that he was under the influence of alcohol (apparently while on the House floor whilst voting....lovely, eh?) Perhaps aocohol and religion should be outlawed in this country, as they both seem to cause so many problems.....
Why didnt Folley just blame Satan for his actions, rather than blaming the Church and alcohol? Wouldnt that be easier for Republicans to beleive?
Actually, what I want to know is why Folley doesnt just stand up and take responsibility for his own actions....Why blame others? Coward.

No, Foley is just passing the blame on to the popular "buzz word" ills of society as a way to shirk his responsibility.

Seriously when he said "I think I'm an alcoholic?" Please, if you are an alcoholic you know it, even if you don't admit it. "I am Gay?" It might have worked for Jim McGreivey of New Jersey, but this excuse is old. As for the molestation, even if this were true, it's no excuse for molesting and taking advantage of kids.

Foley needs to do the right thing. He's already resigned, but he himself needs to apologize, personally, not thru his attorney, and then he needs to go to jail, and then quietly go away. He needs to take the responsibility for what he has done, not continue to make lame excuses and divert the blame for what he has done.

First off, Foley blames the Catholic church, not THE CHURCH.

Second, everyone wears a mask of some sort. Some to hide pain, some to hide shame.

If he were a real man, he would stand and take the responsibility.

Foley is trying to gain sympathy by acting like he has a drinking problem, a victimization problem, etc.
He is an A$$hole and deserves to be kicked to the curb!

if you ask me, the whole situation smells of some two horned animal droppings (and i don't mean a goat). I don't buy for one second that the was molested. I also don't necessarily buy that he's an "alcoholic." the onslaught of excuses just seems to coincidental to me...

A lot of things happen to people in the course of their lives. You need to deal with it & move on. If you need therapy, seek it, but don't take it out on others.
