Yahoo! Answers records the percentage of "Best Answers" awarded to each participant. Because R&S has so many active participants, there's a lot of competition for the "Best Answer" award.

What percentage does a member have to achieve for you to believe they have something relevant to say?

It's not the percentage it's the quality of the answers. And question too.

I don't mean to say I am some sort of standard bearer when it comes to best answers, however, if someone has a higher percentage than I do, (I hover around 10%) it does catch my attention, and I tend to look for that persons Q&A's. As far as credibility, it really depends on the quality of their Q&A's not really their percentage. There are several I keep an eye on who have a low percentage. There are also several I watch who have a very high number, but because they answer so many questions, their percentage is fairly low.

I truly do not look at the percentage of every bodies answer. I look at the content of the answer itself. If the Answerer has put his heart and honesty into his answer and tried to relay the correct information to the public and to the questioner, I would announce him having the best answer. On the other hand if some one has 50 percent of his answer as best answers and showing off about his rank and giving a quick answer that doesn't come out of his heart and is not being honest and caring to relay what he knows to the public, then even if his answer is correct, I would not choose him as having best answer.

It has no bearing on anything.

Too many people have multiple ID's and manipulate the system for it to mean anything. "Best answers" are usually more of a popularity contest in the R & S section than they are indicative of quality of answer.

I have seen more than one "best answer" that was factually incorrect but it agreed with the asker's viewpoint and so was chosen "best answer."

But, I wouldn't use "best answer" ratios to mean anything in the R & S section.

I don't generally look at their profiles. I do not judge by their percentage, though I looked at yours and was impressed. It seems like people with average, non-offensive views who are eloquent and well educated are selected above all others.

I'd say 8-15% best answers is a realistic expectation. Anything much above that, and you have to wonder if friends are voting for each other, or if the person has set up various accounts and is voting for him/herself.

Edit: Although I do have to agree with the answerer above me. One really good answer can make all the difference.
