It is now very different from the development of women in the rest of the world in the west and the middle east. Women had a very traditional role, mostly related to attending to the needs of their husbands and children. Women were rarely allowed to have a formal education, job etc.

Things have improved for them during the past 3 decades, more women are working, getting a decent education, allowed to travel and work abroad.
