If you are talking about "low fat" versions of regular items (potato chips, ice cream, etc.) part of the cost is because the item is perceived as better, and therefore many people are willing to pay more for it. Also, I believe the unnatural processing of, or substitutes added to, the "low fat" food would cost more because of the extra steps required to create or modify said food or additives. I don't like this stuff anyway, because the human body was designed to eat food, not chemicals.

Thats just how it works...Sadly. Also, most of the time food that is bad for you is just food that can be quickly made in like 5 minutes (mcdonalds, bk, ect) so it is cheaper to the person making it, so there fore they will offer a better price than a restaurant were they have organic vegtables and so on

Coz food with high calories are mostly carbohydrates and chemicals, like starchy snack foods, or natural foods that are expensive to make, like meat or dairy from cattle that have to be raised to maturity. High-fructose corn syrup which sweetens packaged foods and probably causes diabetes doesn't cost anything to make, comparatively.
