Don't put it off until the last minute. Be organized and study a little bit every day. If possible make yourself some flashcards to help you review yourself. And yes, minimize distractions. No phone calls or texts or IMs while studying :)

Study regularly and without distractions. Take good notes and read them everyday, rereading them along with the new notes taken that day. Don't try to cram. Reread points the teacher emphasizes in class and highlight or underline those passages in the texts and as well as in your notes. Skim the underlined/highlighted areas regularly as the semester progresses, doing a thorough skimming of them two days and the day before the test. Get a good night's sleep the night before the test and have a good breakfast. You'll be energized and ready to do your best.

NOTE CARDS.
Review them 4+ times. Then see if you can answer it on your own. Put the definites in a pile and the idunnows in another. Review the idunnows 4+ times, then Repeat process until all idunnows are definities.
I'm in Grad school and i still use this technique.
And remember there's NO right way to study. If you're learning while you're doing it, then DO IT.
