Admit that when it comes to the big questions, none of us are really sure.

Base our public morality not on any religious beliefs, but on a set of moral fundamentals derived from reason that we can all agree are true.

Oh, wait... wasn't that what the Founders had in mind, good deists and freethinkers all? Why chuck the greatest experiment in human liberty ever to grace the earth, and rush pell-mell into the darkness of dogmatism?

Loyalty to one's religion gives us Iraq. Loyalty to the constitution gives us our country back.

Quite so, but a society's morals are deeply rooted in their religious beliefs. It's where morals are derived from. Most of US laws were founded on Christian alliance and allegiance to a society that would be lawfully governed under those principles, yet retain religious freedom. It's fascinating really. True religious freedom would mean anarchy. Islam is based on many of the same mores that the US is based on, but two very different laws of society as they branched off God's law through Esau. We have religious freedom by majority, not by Constitution.
