Anyone here stayed at one or both? What to ask for in a Waldorf room?

I've stayed at Essex House and found it GREAT, with the minor exception, as with many NYC hotels I understand, the rooms are smallish. ALSO, you want to at least be FLOOR # 8 and above to lessen traffic noise and SEE the PARK VIEW.

I've heard that all the stars and people of popular interest stay at Essex House

Never stayed at either... because I live here though. I'm sure they are both fantastic. I'd go with the Essex house though because of location I think. Generally I think of the Waldorf as more of a hotel that politicians and dignitaries stay in because it is close to the United Nations. The Essex House is closer to Central Park, Broadway, and other sites and that is why I would stay there if I were coming to visit the city... and the view of the park is hard to compete with!
