If the dog will only sleep in your room now, try taking one of your sons blankets off his bed and put it on the floor of your room and make a bed for him.... sleeping with his scent will maybe help with the problem.

Maybe try getting a big stuffed animal and putting a shirt with your sons scent on it for the dog to sleep with. It might comfort him while he sleeps.

Since your son left, you should now take on the job of being his pack leader.....so take him each day on a long walk...this will make you bond and he can be closer to you. It will not happen overnight but have patience....he longs for your son...but as long as you take him on walks (walks are very important to dogs), play with him and try to share more things with him at home so he can let go of his memory.

Dogs often take about 2 weeks to "process" grief and loss, so give the dog some time. You can also try giving him extra attention -- not when he's whining, but when he's feeling happier -- to help reinforce your place as his new caretaker. You can also try some Rescue Remedy; it's a floral essence based liquid that is used to help soothe shelter dogs when they're anxious or nervous about being displaced.

The dog has to go through this. I would try to make sure that you have a set schedule for the dog such as walks and exercise so to give it something new to look forward to each day. He'll learn to adjust. Give him something that smells like your son like a tshirt.

do whatever your son did with the beagle. Give him/ her love. I'm sure it will get better over time. If that doesn't work, call your son. He might know

Find a t-shirt of your son's that you haven't washed and put it on the dog's bed. If you don't have a stinky one, have your son send you one from college! His scent should calm the dog down.

Just be kind and patient with the little fellow. It is a hard adjustment on animals to have someone they adore to go away-and you can't explain it to them-as far as he understands his master has left him forever-just have compassion!Good luck!

I would say walk him and give him extra love. Also, try to bond with him by brushing him, etc.
