Putting aside the role of faith and beliefs and just looking at the role of organized religion:
Organized religion gives people a framework within which to express beliefs. The framework organizes these beliefs into rituals, moral code, and a structured philosophy / theology. Once established, an organized religion gains a tradition and history which can help clarify these beliefs in different periods of time.
Something to be extremely wary of is the power and structure of the organization. Both are necessary, but like any other human creation, both are faulty.

Religion is the practical application of spiritual concepts into
our daily lives. Associating with the right people. Reading
motivational and inspirational material. Meditation, quiet time
for stress, and prayer. Keeping the lines of communication open
to our Highest Power.

in mine, it is nothing at all. In the society it is a restriction of free thinking because it occupies to many meaningless rules. but since it advises moralty and supports mankind with the promise of heaven for the good an the contrary for the evil, it's ok people may obey it. But i personally don't need religion to tell me the goodness cause i already know it from my parents. And for life after death, i dont believe there is such a thing. Goodness should not be chosen for the promise of heaven, but beacuse it makes you sleep in peace every night

It plays a pretty small role in my life, outside of debating that it should play no role in our government.

Religion is the civilising influence. Our laws are based on principles put forward by religion, as are our basic principles of morality. Too bad there are some who corrupt it, and use it for evil purposes.

I take no notice of religion, but I put my faith in Jesus, when I met with him one day. He is the only thing in my life that I can truly depend on. He has never let me down. He answers my prayers.

It's a crutch. Period. It was a crutch in the beginning when cave men were frightened of lightning and made up a god to explain the phenomenon and it is a crutch now when people are frightened and guilty and need a scapegoat or a way to deal.

It's a source of never-ending conflict, creating primitivistic prejudice and error, and in many, a closed medieval mindset that chooses to embrace the most ridiculous superstitions against which facts, evidence and argumentation fail.
