i would say that you can safely loose about 10-12 pounds a month.
Try weight watchers. The program teaches you to eat right, not just diet for a while and then go back to your old habits.

I would die to be 185. I am 5'10 and the chart says I am about 80 lbs overweight. Before I had children I lost a lot of weight with Weight Watchers and got down to 190 lbs I was in a size 10 and I didn't feel very good at all and I ate very healthy foods. I gained about 10 lbs and felt great. So make sure your 120 lb goal is right for you.

I say have faith, those celebrities can lose 50 and 60 pounds in what only took them 3 months and about 2 weeks. But it takes alot of discipline, you have to be ready and dedicated to losing the weight. They ate small portions of food every 2 - 3 hours, and they exercised every day, now you can look for a plan like that, and while you're at it ask yourself " do I really want to work that hard?" But don't get discouraged, just think of how good you'll look in 3 -4 months, being able to fit into those size 4's or 6's. Also watch how quickly time flies by, so 3 or 4 months will be like tomorrow, especially if you having fun with your workout. And try and do this yourself, if you go in it with someone and they quit, it might discourage you to quit. So be strong girl, you can do it! Watch "Celebrity Fit Club." They did it and they're just people! GOOD LUCK!

It's gonna take awhile to lose the weight safely and that's the way you want to do it.
Diet and exercise are the keys. Take in fewer calories and exercise more. You can't kill yourself once a day and expect great results.
Try the cardio, let's say in the morning, then try taking a brisk walk in the evenings. The more you work out, the faster the weight will come off. Maybe try Curves, the women's club, and let them offer advise and a little assistance.
I'm working on that myself.
Good Luck to you.

i am about 185 too. 5'7 and need to loose about 35 lbs. If 120 is your goal...Make another goal. Try 140. You would be happy and that would make the goal more attainable to you. That way you would be happy. Just excersise while doing that. If not, the fat will hang. You want your body to start making muscle so that when you loose, underneath will be a firm body. Oh, try some slim quick while you are dieting...I heard it was great...eat salads, lots of green veggies, and try to stay away from red meat. Walk at least 3 miles a day and try to increase the time to walk 6 miles a day or every other day....Good Luck

Never if you don't also start to eat right. And to get a good amount of cardio in, you need to work up to doing it for an hour 5-7 days a week. Also depends on how fast your metabolism is to determine how quickly you will lose the weight. Stick with it, good luck!

I hear you on that. I don't think I will ever lose weight. I'm not sure how long it will take you to lose the weight. Everybody's metabolism is different. But as long as you exercise 30 min a day 4 or 5 days a week, eat right and drink lots of water, you should be on the right track.(I say this as I'm eating chocolate cake.I know.)

No, I'm not overweight. I have a 28-month old and an 11-month-old, and I am back to my pre-baby weight (I'm 5'9" and 145 lbs). I eat only when I'm hungry, I eat a lot of veggies, and I eat one or two snacks a day so I'm not ravenous at meal time. I would love to fit in exercise, but I also work full time so I just don't have time.

i too am overweight. personally, I would love to be the weight that you are now. But anyway, I have just started the southbeach diet. It's really easy, and my cousin has lost 65 pounds in 7 months with this diet. You just watch what you eat, cut out the sugar, and exercise. Good luck

Loosing that much weight takes a good while..especially if you're only doing an hour a day. If you've ever seen the show Biggest Loser, they exercised 4+ hours a day to drop about 9-20lbs a week. It was really cool, but they about killed themselves. :P
I'd say atleast 9 months to year. You've got it better off than me. I got 100!
