You can plug a special computer into the jack and read how your car is running. This is usually used by auto repair shops to find out what is wrong with the car. The General Motors computer is around $5000 (it's handheld too). Don't know about Nissan though.

We Yamster Nissan Mechanics need to know what year model and how many miles the car has would be helpful. Nissan 1990 and up used AT com line designation. However the most time I see it I think there is something like the engines airflow meter is going out. ECM engine control module is showing X amount of air entering the engine and the transmission is in third gear when the air flow should be higher. So the TCM transmission control module signals the ECM It is not communicating properly. Newer Nissan's are even more complex.
