On these boards, religious types often say things like "Science cant "prove" evolution, therefore god must have created the world".

Along side that, they will say "You cannot prove the existence of god, you must have faith. God created the world"

IS IT ME? WHAT AM I MISSING HERE?

You're missing the fact that neither side will believe proof that they don't want to see. Proof really isn't going to be found unless you're honestly looking for it.

Science hasn't proven evolution , but has come very close and quite convincingly to many. In fact, many that are religious are even arriving to the conclusion that evolution may not contradict scripture but that evolution was the procedure used by God to create man from the dust of the earth.

As far as proving the existence of God, that is something only He can reveal. Revealing himself would prove his existence, thus destroying our need for faith. As I understand it, He will not reveal himself to the world because he seeks to nurture our faith, and keep us dependant on our faith, which is apparently a quality essential to the hereafter.

You're not missing anything. You need to hear, learn and understand BOTH sides of this question and settle on which one resonates with your heart and soul. I am a Christian. I believe in God and Jesus is my savior. But, I believe that the Garden of Eden was a story written in such a way as to allow the people of that time to understand something that would otherwise be incomprehensible. What if the Bible came out and explained the origin of life in terms of the primoridal soup and the Big Bang? Would anyone in the 1st centuries have embraced that? For me, God designed the Big Bang and enabled life to evolve. The very fact that we evolved from simple organisms is enough proof, for me, of God's existence.

Yes, I think you are confused... But don't worry. Many of us are equally confused. What I think is being said is this:

Some say Christianity cannot be proven by science; therefore, we must not accept that evolutionism is the absolute proof that there is no basis to Christianity.

Non-believers say, show me proof. Believers say show me yours.

The sad truth is that there is much proof in both. There is much common ground to be found, but the easier route is to point at the destination rather than walk toward it. I find it increasingly amazing that we live on the information highway and choose to sit on the side of the road. Hang in there. Take what you can use and throw the rest away. The main thing is to rely on your own intelligence. I happen to see much evidence that the Bible is the true Word of God. Perhaps if you look, you will see... perhaps not. Either way, look with the intention of truth and you will be fine.

I think the problem relates to how each group makes it's decisions. Athiests do not believe in God. They only believe in what they can touch, smell, observe, etc. Therefore, since an atheist reasons only by what they can PROVE the normal response of a Christian to the argument of evolution is that athiests cannot indeed do what they claim they can do. And that is to PROVE there is no God and to PROVE that evolution is a fact. "Religious types" then are only responding to the basis of your argument. You have set the agenda on your part around PROOF.

Now, "Religious types" never make claims about PROVING anything by means of what one can touch, smell, observe, etc. We have always based our convictions on faith which we have arrived at by personal conviction related to eye witness accounts. We have never set the agenda on our part around PROVING anything.

So, it would be very normal for a "religious type" to respond to your position by saying you can't prove anything and be perfectly comfortable with the idea that we cannot prove anything by touch, smell, observation, etc. We do not base our position on physical proof. You do.

LOL. christians desperately want it to be afact that god exists. a good majority of them dont realize that their religion is BASED on faith. if it WAS pure fact that god exists and that christianity is the right religion it would negate the whole basis of faith.

Answers vary from people to people, but you cant prove either. And why linger on the past? You are here, we are living, so why do we have to know how we got here? I do believe in a bigger force then we humans, but I dont think we have to worry about how did we get here, or where or we going so much.

I think all religions are based on faith. If you believe in God then you believe in the Bible. In the Bible it says plainly that God created the heaven and the earth and man and woman and all living things. It really is not that confusing. Non-believers think something else i guess.
