What happens at the dentist when you are pregnant? Can you get exrays? Can you get novicain when you are getting a cavitiy/crown filled? Does it matter how far along you are in the pregnancy? Thanks for all your help!!

Yes.... you can take X-rays ...You should get a written note from your medical DR letting your dentist do the work...If you live in LA. CA. you can give us a call..I work for a dental office and would be glad to help you...or just ANSWER your questions....562-430-2740..my name is Erica
By the way...we don't like taking x-rays but we have digital cameras and x-ray machine....that make a big difference.

Being pregnant does not contraindicate going to the dentist. Any slight risk (and it is MINIMAL) from an x-ray or local anesthetic is NOTHING compared to the risk of having an infection while you are pregnant. It is probably MORE important to see the dentist when you are pregnant than when you are not. Ask for a lead apron if you need any x-rays, though.

When I was pregnant, my dentist wouldn't give me x-rays. I did have a cavity filled. I had novicain. It just numbs your mouth. It's not a toxic drug.

My doctor wouldnt pull my tooth when I was pregnant because he said the novocaine can cause contractions. I was about seven months along at the time.
