I have two dogs, a jack russell terrier mix (11 lb) and a boxer mix (25 lb). I want to run with both of them but I'm not sure if the smaller one can keep up with the larger dog and me at our pace. Is it bad for the smaller dog if we try to make her keep up when her legs are a lot shorterr? I've never run with dogs before, what is an acceptable distance for dogs to run?

Forgot to add: They are both a bit over a year old.

If your JRT is mature, he will have no problem keeping up..dogs will let you know when they are too tired..lagging behind, or panting too heavily..JRTs can keep up with horses!
don't allow large amounts of water to either of them when you return, until they are totally rested..

I am sure you will not have any problems with the Jack Russell...they can run! It will lots of fun for them since they like to run in packs and it should be fun and great exercise for you and bonding experience for all of you. Try it. They will love you for it.

Not sure how "mix" effects things, but a JR will run circles around a Boxer

The Jack Russell breed is usually pretty hyper, I think he could keep up. LOL
