I need a Great Pyrenees puppy of ANY origin, just along it isn't lab, retriever, terrier, or collie. I don't care where it comes from, it's history, just as long it has all of it's limbs. I wanted a rescued one, but we don't have a shelter any where near me. If any body knows if a Pyrenees puppy needs a home I would really appreciate it!

I have researched it. They are very energetice and need lots of excercise. I run alot and I NEED a dog that can go fast and long. I have a very big yard and lots of time. I need a family/guard dog. I could get a chiwawa, but those things are annoying. If I have a big dog, robbers will think twice before stealing, and bears too. Pyrenees are famed for their patience, gentlness, and loyalty. Satisfied? It's a perfect dog for me!

Somthing that big inside? I said it is going to be a gaurd dog. I thought it was a quiet dog and was reconsidering, but thanks! I need a yappy dog. They are protective of everything? It just keeps on getting better and better. Stubborn, too? So am I, and I wouldn't want a dog that can bepushed around. Don't you get it? I'm stubborn, and nomatter what you say(well almost) I want that dog. Unless you can tell me where I could get a pure-bred rottweiler for free? HIGHLY UNLIKELY! So, I am getting a Pyrenees.

Why????

You need to know everything about a dog of that size and breed if you want to raise it right. If you get it from some lousy backyard breeder, you are going to have a dog riddled with hereditary health issues and you'll pay 10X in medical costs than you paid for the dog. If you get it from the petstore, you are supporting puppy mills.

Look on line for Great Pyrenees rescue groups. They will help you track down a dog, maybe not a puppy, but one that needs a home. And many of these rescue groups will form relays to drive dogs to their new owners....for the RIGHT home.

Have you reserached the breed? Are you sure you can provide the correct type of home?

I've grown up with those dogs, they're so cool. We just moved to TN, and there are so many for sale and free in the papers here. And they're a heck of a lot cheaper too then I've seen in other states. Farmers use them to watch over livestock and such from the coyotes. Check online for a TN newspaper, I'm in the Nashville area, think it's called The Tennessean.

Edit: They do make wonderful house dogs and guard dogs. And yes, they do bark a lot. They'll bark at the wind blowing. My parents have never had a complaint from neighbors, not even "miles away". They've always had a chain link fence up(3 foot), and only 1 out of 5 ever escaped by digging underneath it, which I know lots of dog breeds that dig holes under fences as well as lots of breeds jump over them; it's not just prone to that breed all breeds are capable of it. I understand that woman takes in rescues, but she is so negative, bet nobody qualifies for her dogs. To each their own I guess. Good luck in your quest!!

Why do you want this particular breed? There are so many other breeds out there that could be better suited to your needs. Please research this breed tirelessly before committing to a pup. There are too many in rescue because the owner had NO idea what they were getting into when they took the cute little ball of white fluff home!!
If you know the breed, and want one for its working abilities, then please contact a reputable breeder or rescue. Most will work with you on transport, and there is a transport list just for the purpose of getting old dogs to new homes. There are also a few Grt Pyr lists on yahoo, and they have people who do rescue. It's a yahoo list, just search for it !!! Best of luck in finding just the right pup for you!

***Responding to your added comments:

They are also VERY annoying barkers, and that CANNOT be trained out of them. It is instinct for them to bark at everything, including "alien squirrels", "flying crickets", etc. Their bark echoes. It will fill a neighborhood. They also think any territory they see is theirs to protect. This means unless you have an 8 foot high privacy fence (which 2 of my rescues have climbed-thanks to the dew claws), they WILL escape, and your dog will end up 50 miles away in 20 minutes time. They are one of the most stubborn breed of dogs to train. They are bred to think for themselves. They are NOT good house dogs. You will get constant complaints. PLEASE rethink this. You can get a Weimaraner if you want a dog that has high energy and loves to run. A rescue greyhound is another option.
PLEASE: I just can't stress this enough-it is why these dogs end up in rescue to begin with-they are just not meant to be house dogs. Not to say they don't make good house dogs, but the odds are SO rare...

Prime example, please read my story a real life law suit between breeder and myself.

It does pay to be educated before you buy, good luck and I hope you find that perfect match from a rescue.

go to akc.org and get a breeder referral. This is not a common breed.
