A while ago i started talking to my friends, friend on the internet, he asked for a number and i wasn't sure it was a good idea to give him my number, as we had only spoke a few times. As a result i gave him my number but changed one of the digits so it could be seen as accidental. Today we were talking again and he gave me his number, i feel a bit mean but i wasnt ready to swap numbers at the time and still am not 100% sure i want to. Is this really wrong and mean?

No but it is immature. You should have simply told him you weren't comfortable yet. Honesty is always the best policy.

After talking a few times on the internet .. I would have just told him that you were not yet comfortable giving out your phone number to him. By the way .. did you see if the one he gave you is correct ? Good Luck! :)

I think you should have told him upfront that you were not ready to exchange numbers. You shouldn't do something that you don't feel comfortable doing. If he was a true friend, I'm sure he would have understood.

No, you are just being safe. Stay with talking on the internet and do not give any personal information if you do not feel comfy doing it.

Try honesty?I understand it is a new concept for some people, but I would rather you tell me that you didn't want me to have your number than to lie to me and give me a false number. But I am weird that way

Even though you have communicated over the net, you still do NOT know him. I would err on the side of caution, always. You did the right thing.

Whenever I meet anyone who wants my phone number, I always write it down as Jenn/867-5309. If they dont' get the humor in that, they don't get my real phone number.

If you don't feel comfortable just tell him or make an exscuse to go. If he keeps bothering you just lose him, you don't know him well.
