Good question. Firstly let me say that some will tell you that Hell isn't real. Well if that's the case then there is nothing to worry about. If Hell is real then we have to be concerned about it. You can't avoid Hell at all on your own merits. You aren't a good enough person. I must note that hell is our punishment for disobeying the Lord. This is called sin. Sin seperates us from God. The Bible say's that God can't look upon sin, and he won't allow sin into heaven. Nothing we do though will get us into heaven at all. Romans 3:23 say's 'All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.' Also Romans 6:23 say's 'The wages of sin is death.' This is an eternal sepertion from God. remember that 'the wages of sin is death' in other words we earn hell, its what sin gets us in the end. Nothing we do can stop it. But praise the Lord that God didn't leave us to rot in that stinking place. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross. He died for you and for me, He died for our sin. You see Jesus took the punishment that was rightly ours. Remember the wages of sin is death. We deserve to die. But Jesus was without sin. So when he died he took all of our sin. If He didn't sin how come he died? That's what it means when you hear the saying 'Jesus died for us all.' More than that though, He died for you as an individual. Now what we have to do is confess our sin to Jesus and he will forgive us our sin and cleanse us fom all unrighteousness. If you do that then you won't go to hell, but have a first class ticket to heaven. Now that has to be worth something doesn't it. The question is what are you going to do about it?

Even if hell existed as a place of torment , which it doesn't by the way , the person in charge of hell is the devil , and being Gods adversary and enemy he doesn't work for God and therefore would not allow God to punish people by sending them to him , so since there is no hell to be sent to as punishment off God , you cannot avoid going there because you cannot go there anyway , however the Bible does say that those ignoring God and not living by his standards will be judged as bad and be subject to ' everlasting cutting off ' which means you , if you do not live by Gods rules , will die never to be resurrected , if you do , however , live by Gods rules and standards , you may attain everlasting life in paradise .
Hope you make the right choice

Don't worry, there is no such place as Hell. It was made up by man in power to scare us into doing what they want. God loves and doesn't punish. The bible was written by man - Do you really trust someone you've never met? Look inside urself, research outside of christianity to get more ideas. Believe whatever sounds right for you. Some interesting places to start are "conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsh, Look up the Montauk experiments, Research the Star People... Have fun.

There is no such place as a fiery hell.
A loving God wouldn't invent such a place
The word is mistranslated & means the common grave of mankind
What does the Bible say the penalty for sin is?
Romans. 6:23: “The wages sin pays is death.”
After one’s death, is he still subject to further punishment for his sins? - No
Romans. 6:7: “He who has died has been acquitted from his sin.”
Is eternal torment of the wicked compatible with God’s personality?
Jeremiah. 7:31: “They [apostate Judeans] have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, in order to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart.” (If it never came into God’s heart, surely he does not have and use such a thing on a larger scale.)
Illustration: What would you think of a parent who held his child’s hand over a fire to punish the child for wrongdoing? “God is love.” (1 John 4:8) Would he do what no right-minded human parent would do? Certainly not!
To teach that God would torment people forever in a fiery hell is misrepresenting God.
He is a God of love

You don't Avoid punishment in hell. I mean, how does a person avoid punishment. You are punished. You don't avoid a crime. You don't comit a crime.
Before you get there, you could always get a hook and rope to tie it to St. Peter's foot.

Well ...
For one not to go to hell, you have to 1st accept the Lord Jesus Christ into your life as your personal Saviour; believing that He came to die for the sins of the world and now He is risen. From that point, just follow God's commandments and allow God to guide you daily. Develop and pray relationship with God. Through prayer and worship we grow in God more spiritually.

Um, wow, if you're IN HELL, you can't avoid punishment, cuz you're IN HELL.
But seriously, any god worth the name would not even ALLOW a hell to exist. Your God has a hell to send you to? Then he ain't mine.
