If you slept 24 hours a day, you would burn about 600 calories. If you only slept 8 hours and watched TV the other 16, you would burn about 1,000 calories, so you could slowly gain weight by sleeping more.

No, you wouldn't gain weight, but you would lose the opportunity to lose it.
See The more you sleep, the more time your body has to go without healthy nutrients and energy (food). As a result your body will not be able to supply energy to muscle as if you were eating properly and it will begin to dump the most energy costly thing, Muscle.
You will lose muscle if you don't supply it with enough energy. On the other hand if you sleep too little or are very stressed you gain weight easier.

Of Couse, if you body is not moving you are not burning calories. You should sleep soundly for no more or less than 8 hours. Even if you are short the day before. You need to burn off what you eat. And your muscles get weaker too.

you do no longer inevitably benefit weight by potential of no longer sound asleep, yet analyze have shown that folk who get complete nights of sleep often (7 or 8 hours) many times safeguard a fit weight. i'm no scientist, yet i could wager that obtaining a healthful dosage of sleep retains your metabolism working at a extra useful %., and provides extra potential for the duration of the day to burn energy.

You actually burn more calories by sleeping than by sitting on the couch watching TV or sitting in front of a computer.
