see a neurologist.
there are preventive medications out there if you need them, (Topamax)but most people take drugs in the class called "Triptans"- things like Imitrex, Maxalt, Relpax, Zomig, etc... they target the blood vessels in the brain that cause the headache. These drugs don't make you feel funky, you can work & drive & they are fast acting (usually within 30 min or so). For nausea & vomiting, you can take Phenergan, (prescription).
There are other medications out there as well, but your neurologist will decide what is best for you based on your symptoms.

There are a few different ways that work for me. First of all you need to get out of the light and noise. Find a dark queit room and just try to relax. I have tried every type of migrane medicine on the market and have found one that is an absolute miracle. It is called zomig. They have normal pills, orally disolving tabs, and a nose spray. Pills work for me within an hour or so. Tabs usually about 15 minutes, But the nose spray takes about 5 minutes and you are migrane free, its incredible. After suffering 15 years of migranes and numerous emergency room trips i have found a cure. The best part is they are not narcotic, or anything like that. You do need a perscription though. Good Luck

Take a pain reliever as soon as you notice symptoms.

I usually do both of the following:

1- sit in the shower with hot water hitting the top of your head. I find it soothing and it helps me relax which helps relieve the headache. I also leave the lights turned off.

2- lie in bed with an ice pack under my neck at the base of my skull and another on my forehead. Sleep it off. (if cold doesn't help, use heat)

They also have these cold patches in most pharmacies that you can stick to your forehead and neck. Their less bulky then ice packs, but you can only use them once.

*ADDITION*

You might also want to for a consult with your doctor. Most migrain suffers have certain things that will trigger the pain.

When I was younger my triggers were mainly food preservatives like the ones in lunch meats and ketchup. Now that I'm older, my birth control use to set off the migraines, stress and lack of sleep to it to me as well.

There are prescriptions available to help minize the occurences.

Accu-pressure on the scalp (i.e., shiatsu).
Using fingertips along and around the skull and temples, it works for me.
