This is a tough one.
Hagler is my favorite fighter of all time, and Hopkins is an all time great that only got his due when he took Antonio Tarver to school.
They're both equally skilled, with Hagler the bigger banger.
However, I think the key in this fight would be the Marvelous One's ability to switch from rightie to leftie with equal effectiveness.
Hagler ekes out a disputed decision.

Hagler, no question about it. Let's look at why. The power advantage goes to Hagler. Hagler was never off his feet in his career, and never in any serious trouble. The same can't be said for Hopkins. Defense goes to Hagler as well. Did he get hit? Of course, but just look at his fight against Hearns when he was completely bloody and still destroyed Hearns.
Speaking of Hearns, Hopkins is a similiar fighter, tall, lanky, good right hand, and no chin. Hopkins was known for starting slowly, and comming on late after he figured out his opponet. Hagler came out from the opening bell to seek, kill, and destroy. Hopkins' strategy would not have worked vs Hagler.
Now for the final point. Let's compare the level of competition while each was champ. Hagler fought Hearns, Leonard, Duran, Antifermo, Benitez, any and all commers. Hopkins fought Eckols, Jones Jr., Trinidad, DeLaHoya. Yes he beat DeLaHoya, but if you think DeLaHoya was a "real" middleweight, think again.

Great question Brent! I rank Marvin Hagler as the second greatest middeweight of all time (tied with Monzon) behind Sugar Ray Robinson. He was very strong with great boxing ability, great puncher, and could really take a punch. Hopkins is also a great fighter with good boxing ability and a strong chin too! This would be a fight of wills with Hagler probably dominating with the stronger punches against a very tough Hopkins who would return fire against Hagler. I believe this would be a good fight with Hagler winning about 9 rounds on his way to a unanimous decision.

Hopkins - W 47 (KO's 31) TF 53 - W pct 87% - KO pct 59% - wins over De La Hoya, Trinidad, Tarver and W. Joppy - KO'ed by none - #50 ranked fighter
As of 2004 #1 ranked current pound 4 pound
Titles at 160 and 175
Both are great fighters. Both fighters have never been KO'ed. For boxing aficionados, this is a great fight. Hagler has learned his lesson not to over respect your opponent like he did against Duran. Also Hagler learned his lesson from the Leonard bout not to play around in a fight. Hagler will win a unanimous 15 rd decision.

Hagler by using KO while Hopkins replaced into 27 years previous and Hagler in his top at Middleweight. i comprehend people won't like my selection. i'm a brilliant hopkins fan and that i replaced into until now it replaced into cool to be one. he's definitely one of my renowned boxers, ever, era. And he's somewhat certainly one of the right boxers in the historic past of the sport for his physique of paintings. he's truthfully a grasp. yet people underestimate Hagler. i think of Hagler at middleweight could be too stable for a youthful Hopkins. Roy Jones Jr beat Hopkins and so could Hagler. Hagler replaced into so freakin' stressful, for persons that don't comprehend. Bhop could lose virtually each and every replace, imo. Hagler wins by using KO in the seventh.

If Hagler comes for war I go with him inside of 6 rounds. If he comes half assed like he did with Duran or Sugar Ray I go with him by decision. Anyway you look at it, Hagler wins!
