Again, it has been shown that there needs to be some opening of our borders to increased legal immigration and increased temporary workers. And again, the government fails to competently and adequately address the issue.

If they had always paid living wages, this wouldn't have happened. We can afford to have the farmers pay living wages. Studies have shown that would only end up costing a family of four $10 more per year for produce, since labor isn't a big part of the cost of produce.
However, I suspect there will end up being some sort of agriculture program since it is seasonal, and has unusual, seasonal requirements. The key will be to have seasonal workers, who don't impact schools and services in the same fashion.
It is the fact that it is seasonal that makes it hard for agriculture to get and keep workers. It is hard to get a job just in the 'off season' to pay the rent, so agricultural workers perpetually move to 'more stable jobs.' What they need, is a program for seasonal workers, like the H2B program where the employer provides housing and health care, and families and schools aren't even brought into the equation.

Didya know that people can like, grow stuff out in their yards? 2 yards of dirt is more than enough to start off some basic veggies in your front yard. Doesn't get much better OR healthier than 'garden fresh'...

What is interesting to me is how stupid you are. 90% of farming and agriculture is done by "the white man". The other 10% utilizes illegal immigrants just for picking. As your article stated this 10% resides mostly in California and very few other western states.
Please people...research, research.

I don't mind importing my fruits and vegetables from Mexico if the American farmers can't make it work without breaking the law.

You are misguided. Not everyone in the United States is fat - or gorges themselves on junk food.
I happen to be 40 pounds UNDERWEIGHT for someone my height. (I'm 6'0" and way about 125 - 130.)
