I always put equal portions and my rice turns out really nice and fluffy. For example 1cup water to 1cup rice. Let stand for 5 minutes and your rice should be really fluffy.

For Long Grain Rice use 2 cups and 2 tablespoons of water for each cup of rice. Once it comes to a boil reduce the heat to a simmer and cover . Do not lift the lid for 45 minutes. Then fluff it up with a fork and serve.
