You don't say what country you are in and whether you are a citizen of that country.

Generally i would say you need a birth certificate or better yet a passport and generally something with proof of address like a bill or a letter from a government agency.

If you are having a lot of difficulty try the post office - they are good accounts to have. If you are still having difficulties tell your benefit agency, or citizen advice bureau who should be able to help you do this. The citizen advice bureau is a charity - also it should also be able to help you fill out your forms.
Sometimes in England it can be hard to open a bank account - especially with extra regulations post September 11th concerning how to prove your identity.

Hope this helps.

If you under 16 you have to ask your parents. Savings account you can have from age of 11. Direct Debit it's from 18. To open an account you will need proof of your address ( 2 different pieces), proof of identity ( passport, driving licence) at some places they can accept a student card, but it's not always. be serious about all that banking stuff PLZ

You need to go to the bank that you would like to business with, make sure you have money to deposit and identification. After you get into the bank, they will do the rest of the guiding for you, all banks have a new accounts representative that will guide you thru the process telling you all the different options that are available.

Go to the bank with your first benefit cheque and discuss it with one of the clerks. any bank will be willing to open a current account straight away and it may take a few weeks to sort out a savings account. You will need a form of photographic id (pasport) and a utility bill (gas, electric etc) as well though as proof of ID.

You can actually log on to the website of the bank you are interested in banking with and click on checking, savings or something and it should lead you right to it, I did and that is all I had to do, then I registered for online banking right then and there online! Its fast effective and easy!! Try it!

Go to a bank. They will tell you exactly what to do. In fact, they will do most of it themselves. You just need to have some money to put in the account, and proof of identification.
