what is a good brand to purchase around $200 that really works?it is illegal to have a radar detector in Louisiana?

To me the best bang for your buch radar detector is the BEL 895, for $200 at Radio Shack. The BEL 895 is not the best but it is certainly up there with the top 3 radar detectors[Escort 8500 X50($300), BEL RX65($329.99), and Valentine 1($400)] I personally have a BEL Vector 995($270) and Valentine 1($400) and their is only a slight difference in detection range. I like both detectors equally due to their unique features.
Radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia and Washington DC in the USA. Everywhere else it's legal.

I will tell you this. Some police cars have counter-radar detectors. You can remedy by buying a counter-counter radar detector to go with your radar detector. And even fewer but a possibility is that, some police have counter-counter-counter radar dectectors. It becomes a game eventually and you lose in the end because you may as well speed and get 4 tickets instead of buying 2 radar dectector units.
You're better driving smart (like not being the last one in a line of cars) or driving the speed limit.

when I quit someone who has a detector they immediately get a citation. I for one understand the thanks to remarkable use my radar equipment and capture human beings each and every of the time which have detectors. some human beings were in the approach my "that's a caution in elementary words" speal even as i said that they had detector lower than seat, they speal immediately stopped and a citation develop into issued. they should be unlawful as they promote rushing. If an officer idea it develop into an MP3 participant they should be a rookie..

I dono about illegal, But no radar detecter is worth it, i havent seen one yet that dosent beep at walmart, Im not going to slow down to walmart, but one day theyll be a cop at walmart, and im not slowing down, and guess what, hello Ticket, and good bye 200$ POS! dont waste your money,

My family & I have Cobra's, do a google search for them.
You'll want one that can cover 12 or more bands.
And yes you should drive smartly, if not always legally.
