Freaky would be fine as long as some rules were in place. And how do know it really isn't that way?
Like the terrorists that kill innocent people are told that they will have 72 virgins in the afterlife. They get there and it is 72 gay guys and they are the virgin.

If I was convinced that this was true, I would believe it. Truth doesn't have to be tailored to my liking for me to know that it is true.
I'm not sure what you mean by "follow a belief". Either you are convinced it is true or you are not convinced. Since there is no evdience of an afterlife, I don't believe that to be true. If there were evidence of this particular afterlife, I would probably be convinced that it is true.
In either case, there's nothing to follow or not follow. There really is no choice in what you are convinced is true.
