My kindergarten kid got it at school two weeks ago. I bought the rid x kit, about $20 but it's worth it, it comes with the shampoo, gel, and spray. It's not easy or cheap but when it comes to lice I don't think the cheap stuff would work. I cut her hair short and went through every strand to pick them out. I threw out the pillows, blankets, some stuffed animals, hair ribbons, brushes. I sprayed the car, mattresses, furniture. You're supposed to use the shampoo a week after the first treatment. I thought it would kill them all the first time but it didn't. I was still picking them out of her hair a week later. I keep her hair back in barrettes at school so it doesn't touch the other kid's hair. I have been so paranoid about it. I even bought a new vacuum cleaner. This was a nightmare and I hope they are gone. As for your 2 yr. old , it would probably be ok to use it, but open the windows and don't get it in his eyes.

Make sure you do the treatment in a well ventilated are, my sister used it on her 12 month old but was over come by fumes.
You will also have to hot wash everything that you can!!! That is a MUST! Take all comforters to the laundromat if need be & wash it all. If there are toys (stuffed animals etc. ) that cannot be washed then either place in a trash bag for a couple weeks, or discard.
The easiest (not really cheapest) way is go to your local pharmacy & buy the shampoos, and the furniture sprays. When my daughter had them in elementary school, I treated the sofas, the CAR, basically ANYWHERE that your child hangs out. I washed everything and make sure to treat again in a week, the new eggs may hatch & you will be in the same boat. Everyone in the house should treat their heads as well. And DO NOT believe that myth that mayonaise works in the hair, it doesn't, I tried. Basically it is expensive but well worth it just investing in the proper sprays and shampoos. Just make sure to treat everyone and everywhere. Especially notify anyone that your daughter has been in conatct with (sleepovers, or grandparents homes).

Sorry, however you do want a well nit comb. It is unimaginable to do away with the nits with out it, wanting shaving heads. I endorse the LiceMeister. Once you purchase it, it lasts indefinitely. Of direction, you have got to wash the entire bedding in scorching water and tumble dry. This entails the crammed animals and hair presents too. Vacuum the carpet throughly. For our loved ones, to kill the lice, I soak the pinnacle and hair in rubbing alcohol. Be cautious to not get it into the eyes. Then rinse out and shampoo as typical. This is way less expensive than Nix or Rid and it's extra strong.

There's two cheap and effective ways to get rid of the lice. Mayonaise and vinegar does work to kill the lice and nits in the head. Rub the mayonaise on the head and leave on for about 20 minutes. wash it out and pour the vinegar on the head and leave on for about 10 minutes. It'll be a bit nasty but it does work. rinse the vinegar out and shampoo the hair twice to get all that junk out. If you need to you may need the comb to comb out the lice still stuck to the hair folicle or you may pull it out yourself. Good luck! If you don't care for the mess and smell then get a bottle of nit/lice killer at any drug store, not too sure if it's safe for a 2 year old though. ask your dr. about that or read the back of the box.

the lice shampoos are good for your little girl but I would asked your doctor before using it on the two year old . Most lice prod. will tell you how old the child can be before using it . most doctors recommend lice treatment and then put olive oil on the child and put on a shower cap for 3 hours comb out the lice and nits repeat in 7 to 14 days.
I hope this helps.

The toxins in it can eventually cause an allergy to it if not done EXACTLY on the bottle (sometimes can anyway.)
What I have done because my hair is so think that it used to take three bottles to get it through my hair is this...
Take a very THICK conditioner such as Cholesterol and put it on the hair for about 15-20 minutes. This will suffocate the young and adults. It will not help with the eggs. Make sure to rinse out thoroughly. Then do this step every day for the next 2 weeks which is approximately the LONGEST any egg will take to hatch.
This will not protect against re infestation. But it will minimize the chance your child will have pain on the scalp. Be VERY careful to not to get it in your child's eyes.

Yes it's safe, just don't leave it in any longer then recommended or you could shave his head. The shampoo treatments work well, then blowing drying the hair helps loosen the eggs making it easier to pick them out. Don't bother with the silly comb they put in the box, it doesn't help. I used my hands and picked 3 times a day for 3 days! And it was gone, after that I kept checking and shampooed again to make sure. All hair color kills it! Eliminates it!And wash all bedding/coats/teddies and you could by the spray for couches/rugs/carseats, and vaccum!Good luck, I don't envy you!My daughter got it last year and now her hair is up every school day and hair sprayed and her hair only gets washed on weekends-so far so good!

Easiest safest and cheapest way, shave her bald (but it's not practical)
The shampoos work great, but you need to wash like three days in a row and use the lice comb to pick out any remaining eggs.

Mayonnaise and Vinegar. Cover the child's head with the Mayo and wrap it with plastic wrap! Leave in for about 45 minutes and then rinse out with the Vinegar. Then wash hair with their shampoo and use alot of Conditioner. Lice do not like conditioner. I also use a mixture of Water, Baby oil and tea tree oil in a spray bottle and I spray it on my girls hair and comb it through. Lice do not dirty oily hair. They can not grab on to the hair roots.
