that in the end there will be a war between heaven and hell or between god and lucifer.
to state that there will be a war implies a chance of losing.
if god is supposed to be all powerful then why the need for a war? why doesn't god just blink the devil into oblivion instead of taking a chance of losing as would be with any war?

Not a bible scholar but isn't that from Revalations which was some guys dream? Dreaming about war and having an actual war aren't the same thing....although, I know lots of BTs believe in the coming of an actual war.

But you're point is a good one. Why does God EVER lose even one soul to Hell. The BTs will scream "free will", God let's you choose for yourself. Then they'll turn around and say that God knew what choices you'd make in life before you made them.

If A=B and B=C then doesn't A have to equal C too? So if God made you and knew all your choices before you made them and you made the free will choices that landed you in Hell, didn't God know you were going to Hell even before you were born?

How about this idea instead, how about all that Hell stuff and Vengful God stuff was put in the bible by the church to scare people into sticking to the party line. How about we think of God as being perferct, and making each and everyone of us perfectly for the journey we are here on the earth to take and the lessons we are here on earth to learn. How about the idea that EVERYTHING that happens happens perfectly becasue it was designed by a God who doesn't mess up and who doesn't lose or even allow pure evil like the Devil to exist. How about we look at things that we consider "horrible" such as 9/11 or the past week's events at the schools where the attorcities occurred, and we ask, "what would a loving perfect God want us to learn from those events?" Well, we learn what it means to feel compassion, we learn what we don't want to be ourselves, we learn what the opposite of love is...and without knowing and experiencing the dark, we can't know what the light is".

So, believe in God who is LOVE, who doesn't mess up, who doesn't lose battles and who doesn't punish things He, Himself has made.

The devil has already been condemned, so God cannot lose. The battle that you are probably referring to has already been fought, when Lucifer was expelled from heaven and his name was changed to Satan. Satan will fight God again, and he will lose at Armageddon and be locked down in the bottomless pit for a thousand years. After that, he will be set loose and God will defeat him again. No one has all the answers as to why this must occur. God does not allow us to see all of his plan, just that part that we need to know for the present. Everything that God does has a purpose. Maybe we cannot see it today, but it is there and it may not manifest itself for thousands of years to come.

Yes, the Bible says many silly things. The idea of a war between Heaven and Hell makes for a better story, and that's all that's important. Do you really think they would get people to convert if the Bible said, "And God made everything to his satisfaction. The End."?? I don't think so.

Consider the battle between David and Goliath. While God was never threatened, nor His character changed, David's courage and faith were surely strengthened through this great victory God had given him.

The battles in life are inevitable. For what soldier has ever learned anything from an obstacle course without the obstacles? Yet God's victory over evil is also inevitable. For Jesus made it official when He said on the cross, "It is finished." It is also written, "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

God is preparing us here on earth for something far greater than here...And the battle of Armageddon, for which victory has already been declared for all those who follow Christ, will be like David versus Goliath. For the prophet Zechariah wrote, "On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the LORD going before them."

this interestingly was brought up in discussion at my bible study...

what if revelations and the "end of the world" is not necessarily a prophecy of what is Definitely going to happen...but more of a Warning to us what WILL Happen if we DON'T continue to spread the Word, the good news?? think about it...the more people who change for the Good of themselves, and the world.. i'm not just talking about becoming "christian", but i mean all people continue to teach and learn what is "Positive"... the less likely there will be such mass destruction...

also in the bible was the story of Noah's Ark.... God sent the waters to pretty much wipe out the population because everyone was so immoral, etc....and He wanted to start over and repopulate w/ those that were "good".... so if all the people were NOT immoral, God never would have sent the floods.

i know these are considered stories to many people, but the "good" vs "bad" is prevalent in all people's lives, christian or not. immorality vs morality is still there...knowing how to love and teach children good vs bad is still there.. u don't have to be christian to believe that there are morals and values to be learned :)

Since we are stuck in time, this looks like a future event. God is in eternity and the event that you mention has already happened, in eternal effect, happening just as you describe - God blinking the devil and his crew into oblivion. It just looks like a war form our perspective in time.

The war you allude to is not a war started by God but by satan and if you read more you will find that God does indeed blink satan to oblivion. He will destroy him with the breath of His mouth and the brightness of His coming(II Thessalonians 2:8)

I doubt that there's any doubt. Jesus states that He is stronger than the devil. The battle is probably necessary in some other way. There may be a need to retake this world. It was turned over to the enemy in the Adam and Eve story. I'm sure he wouldn't turn it over willingly, without a fight.

Nah, satan lost the day he fell from heaven. The war you speak of is not so much a war, as final reckoning. That day or week or month or whatever the period may be, is when God finally bounds satan eternally.

Don't try making sense out of the Bible. It doesn't make sense, and the Christian apologists answer for that will be that we humans can't expect God's plan to comply with imperfect reason. We still have to use our imperfect reason to learn everything we need to know to survive, and indeed to interpret our religious texts, but we still can't expect any of it to make sense or fault it when it doesn't. Wait, something sounds wrong with this entire belief system...
