It's not her hand actually.

It stands for Panjaten-e-Pak meaning the Pure Five who were :

1) Prophet Muhammed

2) Fatima (his daughter)

3) Ali (her husband)

4) Hassan

5) Hussein

These were the special people sent by Allah as a blesing for all muslims and were collectively known as Ehl-e-bayt. WE can learn a lot about living in this world by taking examples from their lives.

ain't it strange how allah only seemed to choose people from a very small area of the globe. Why didn't he pick the most advanced races of that particular time, ie. the Chinese and the Indians.

I far prefer the prophet Hu-Flung-Dung

As for fatima's hand, it's possibly based on a plagiarised concept of the Jewish Hamsa, the inverted hand used as a good luck charm. Of course, since it doesn't say so in the koran, any mohommedan will tell you that it couldn't possibly be.

BtW, The term mohommedan means followers of the teachings of mohommed. These mohommedans come from many differenc countries and races so the term CANNOT be racist. As so many mohommedans insist that only arabic is correct for reading the koran, so english has nuances that some people clearly don't understand. They can't help it as there's little incentive for them to study the English language.

I've never heard of this hand. And talisman's and tattoes aren't really allowed in Islam. All the members of the prophet's (pbuh) family and his companions played a significant role in establishing Islam becuase they were the first Muslims and it is through all of their extensive efforts that we still have Islam in it's original form today. A special thing about Fatima (ra) that I know is that she was the youngest and the most beloved daughter of the prophet (pbuh).

Unfortunately the Saudi Arabian goverment have demolished her birthplace in the name of Allah (So they say) and have stationed the paramilitary religious police there to arrest anyone who dares to pray at the site. And they get het up when a westerner insults Islam? I would string the Saudi ruling classes up from the nearest lampost and leave them there until they are a health hazard. I think they insult Islam even more than the US has ever done.

I have never heard of any significance of her hand, in a piece of jewellery or a tattoo. Maybe you met a person who liked the hand? I don't know. To add to some of the other answers I would like to say that she was one of the greatest women in Islam, a true feminist!

**EDIT**

Rationalist_999, the word 'mohommedan' is very offencive and could even be deemed a racist term.

In the Mainstream (Sunni) Islam, Fatima's (peace be upon her) hands are not iconic in any way. And as far as I know there is no story behind it. I am guessing that this might be done by other sects (some of which are deviant).

And Allah knows best.

Fatima (Ra) is the beloved daughter of Prophet Mohammed (saw). She was known to have followed everything the prophet taught, she always did everything her father did. He would kiss her forehead because her hair smelled like heaven. In Islam we beleive she will lead the women in to Heaven while Prophet Mohammed will lead the men.

Regarding the hand I don't know what you are talking about.
We don't wear it round our necks or have it tattooed.
Fatima is the Prophet Muhammad's(PBUH) youngest and favourite daughter.
She is also known as one of the four great women of Islam.

I read that in a book. Muslims reject any symbols, tattos and strongly reject "Good luck charms", as it is considered a minor type of polytheism (Other than God brings good). And this hand is a good luck charm, but totally rejected by many Muslims.
