I had the same issue. I am not sure if it varies from state to state by in NY the father has to sign an acknowledgement of paternity. That must be included with the birth certificate application which should have a section for changes. You can always contact your state's department of health. I didn't have to go to court to change my daughter's name and add her dad as the father on the birth certificate so I don't you would have to go to that extent.

You will have to do this in the court system - your husband may actually have to 'adopt' your son - then the court will order a name change which the state will issue a new birth certificate.
Good luck and so cool the man is back in the family!

there is a program throughthe state pop or pip ,parental involvement or something go to the dhs website to find it or the office where you go to ask for help collecting child support they will give declaration of paternity papers and you and dad will have to go there and sign it together or get it notarized then send paperwork they give you from the state , some states make you go to court as part of the process depending on how old the child is

Not sure but Birth certificate's can be changed b/c they put my girl down as a boy and I had to go fill out 'amendment' paper's to get it changed. It cost me a lot of money.

Check with the county clerk's office in the county your son was born in. They would be familiar with the options available, as they vary from state to state.

You will have to get in touch with the office of human statistics in the state your child was born in, as well as the social security administration.

You have to go to court for that. Get a lawyer, they can help. You'll probably only have to show just cause.
