If you are going to cut your own bangs....how far back should you go? I mean how much hair should you pull forward if you have grown in bangs?

There's no set rule. Just start small, you can always pull more forward. Just be sure to start LONG as well. It's surprising how much they'll shrink up when you take that little bit of weight off. Good luck!

What I do when I just want the front out of my eyes, I make a part in my hair about 1" above the hair line from the outside edge of the eyebrow. Go from one eyebrow to the other then pull all of that hair forward and cut just under the eyebrow. If you want thicker bangs or a little off the crown then pull more hair from the top....start like 2" above the hair line. I just like mine feathered and blended with the rest of my hair instead of a blunt cut bang.

It depends on how thick you want your bangs. Never go past your ears though. I usually start my bangs an inch from the beginning of my hairline.
From the other responses, I hope I'm answering correctly. You're asking how much hair should you cut to make bangs not how short to cut your bangs (as in above your eyebrows or not), right?

You would look different than most people if you cut your bangs down to your scalp and left the rest of your hair alone.
This probably is not the advice you were looking for, but it's a novel idea. Try it.

do you mean back from the hairline or from the bottom?
From the bottom, cut to below your eyes.
From the top, about an inch (maybe less from your hairline)
