Why are people afraid of ghosts? What is so frightening about the prospect of seeing someone in spirit form when you were not frightened of them when they were alive?
It always puzzles me that the majority of people are afraid of ghosts, or rather afraid of the thought of encountering one. I can understand people being frightened at the possibility of contact with a poltergeist or evil spirit, but there seems no logical reason why anyone would be afraid of the idea of being visited by the spirit of someone they knew when that person was still alive.
For instance, if you were close to your Uncle Bill when he was on the earth plane, why would the thought of meeting him in spirit form be so frightening? It must be very upsetting for our departed loved ones when they return to us to let us know that they are happy and well, to be greeted by screams and, even worse, strangers in robes chanting passages from the Bible and sprinkling holy water all over the place. It may even be frightening for them!
It is more understandable if the idea of seeing a ghost in a place that is reputed to be haunted is a scary proposition. Being alone in a cold, dark cell which is haunted by a Roman centurion in rattling chains isn't a particularly comforting thought, but as it would appear that these ghosts can't see living people anyway, it doesn't seem very likely that they would try to harm us.
When spirits who were known to us in life visit us, however, they are not likely to do anything to deliberately frighten us unless they were inclined to do so when they were alive. They are far more likely to give us 'signs' that they are with us, which can vary from the smell of their perfume to the sudden appearance or disappearance of an object which once belonged to them. These sort of occurrences can be anything from helpful to annoying, depending on what they are and how often they occur, but they surely cannot be described as frightening.
Nevertheless, many people view them in this way and this hardly seems fair on the spirit concerned.

Ghost aren't real. But it would be cool to have a conversation with a nice polite one. As for overcoming the fear carry a flashlight around the dark. Maybe the light could scare the ghost.

The odds are you will never see one. I believe spirits - both good and bad - remain invisible to most of us because there is no need of us seeing them, unless they have some important message to give us. It is more important to avoid where the worst spirits are hanging out at - so stick to clean, uplifting atmospheres with more light. I think there have been too many movies and exaggerated accounts of how spirits look (I do like the movie "Casper" though). Movies exaggerate the characteristics of spirits especially. From more reputable accounts, I have decided that spirits look like people. If they are good spirits, they usually are radiating more light. If they are bad spirits, they are darker. Sometimes a bad spirit will try to imitate a good spirit, but you have the right to pray to know what is around you. If you are reading scriptures, by the way, it's been my experience that bad spirits hate that and will stay away.

I can't say I've had your exact problem, but generally what I do if a fear I know is irrational is getting in the way of something I want to do is to think "what would I be doing right now if I didn't have this fear" and force myself to do it. After a few times of overcoming the fear, it's easy to live with it without it bothering you.

They are just some form of 'recording' ,showing a replay of events. The earth and the rocks and stones all have magnetic fields [as does videotape] and unique atmospheric conditions can trigger a replay.
So don't worry. you're just watchin a home movie!

Don't worry. I think you've been watching too many horror films. If you ever see a ghost, you won't realize it was one until later. Then you won't be afraid, you'll be confused and amazed.

You don't have to see anything that you don't want to...but that won't make it go away.
I've never known fear to be irrational. You are afraid of something that you perceive-which may be a ghost. Tell it to go away. Spend all week telling it to go away, if you have to.

You can't talk to or see ghosts, the dead sleep until judgment. Nothing to be afraid of except the demons who are pretending to be ghosts.
