Your home DVD player should play an avi file. You need to download the Klite codec pack (google it) and then burn the avi file to a DVD using Nero.

To do this you need a DVD mastering software which will uncompress the movie from AVI and re-encode it into the VOB format and burn it on a DVD for playback on a DVD player.
