There immune system is made up differently than ours. They do get sick sometimes. When a dog eats grass, they have an upset stomach. That information came from our Vet. So they have illnesses but the immune system is not like ours. When we are sick, like the flu, they can tell when there is something wrong with us. Because we are acting differently than usual. I have never owned a cat so I am referring to the dog population. We owned a dog one time, his name was Sampson. He was a pitbull boxer mix. He was the most gentle dog I have ever in my life seen. The kids in the neighborhood would walk up to him and rub and talk to Sampson and not say a word to us. He died a very old age. We miss him terribly.
Please, Please don't take to heart the bad answer you received above. Some people have bad attitudes and they like to pass it on to others. Don't let that happen to you.
I know in my heart that you care for your animal or you would not have posted this question. Have a great day.

Why don't we get sick when our pets do? Because we don't have the same immune systems and the same illnesses. They don't get sick by our diseases and we don't get sick by theirs. Most of the time, there are of course things that we can share but very few. ANd most of time it is likely we could get something from them but dont get the same symptoms or disease. But they don't get stuff from us.

Pets immune systems are so very strong it might take a pretty strong cold to make them sick. I mean they eat doo. Ok. If you ate doo all day your immune system would either kick butt or give up.

It's called uncommunicable diseases...generally when a cat or dog gets sick they can't pass it onto humans and vice versa....of course this is with exceptions..but very rarely.

They have different immune systems, although one parasite at LEAST has an exception. It is called giardia, and I know because my mom had it from a foreign country, and she accidentally gave it to my dogs (we raise dogs) and to me also... Ugh it is horrible. But that one is transferrable between humans and dogs. I'm sure there are others but I know of that one for sure at least!

They have different illnesses and their immune system is disparate.
Would you like it if every time your pet got sick you did?
