I was dating this guy for 2 months (no sex mind you) and then he started acting very strangely. Eventually he told me he had herpes and he was having an outbreak so he wasn't really coming around and he was depressed. I am not sure what to do... I am so disappointed because we had perfect chemistry, matching values, and we had so much fun together. Is there a huge risk of transmission if I decided to continue dating him? I have heard yes and no...

I think there is still a risk even if you use a condom....If i were you i would ask a doctor

1 out of every 3 people under 35 have some strain of herpes. It's as common as a hang nail now. But you also need to know the risks. You need to have facts in order to make a decision about any future relationship. This one or any other. Contcat a doctor and ask questions. Also you can do tons of research online.
But utimately it comes down to how much u love the person. Obviously he respects you because he told you. Consider yourself lucky.. so many oters wouldn't.

They do not have to be having an outbreak for you to get herpes yes you can catch it chances are even better if you have sex.

genital herpes, or cold sore herpes?
Genital herpes... no sex during an outbreak, he could consider taking valtrex and you should ALWAYS USE A CONDOM
herpes is uncurable, but it doesn't kill you.
cold sore herpes? WHO CARES! Don't kiss him when he has an outbreak. He could still take valtrex, and get over it. Lots of people get cold sore herpes and it doesn't mean they are dirty or sexual deviants. Heck, I got it from my aunt when I was 12 because she always kissed me on the cheek, and now i get cold sores on my cheek.

Talk to a doctor for the best accuracy because if you get herpes....you have it for life so I wouldnt listen to anyone BUT a doctor regarding THIS question.
