For starters, the average bar charges about 6$ for a pint of beer. "230 5th" a super cool (for the summer...) club/bar/lounge charges 9$ for a beer. "3rd and long" a dive bar on 3rd avenue (in a good neighborhood) charges 1$ for a small mug of beer during happy hour.
NYC in Feb is cold.
as in bone shattering cold.
as in wind just tore my face off cold.
Be prepared to bundle up!

NYC in february is cold, cold, cold. Pack many many layers to wear. I stayed at a place called the da vinci recently. Rooms were way outdated but the price was right. How much time will you spend in the room anyway? Plus they had a great italian restaurant in the basement and the manger was so friendly. Next to the italian place was indian, then sushi, then italian again. You can always ask the front desk for a recommendation as to where to eat. It was just a few blocks from times square (not as great as they say) and central park (wonderful to stroll thru, perhaps not in Feb tho).

The weather is freaking cold, but there are alot of places you can have a blast. Try visitng Time Square, there's a club by the name of China Club and also visit LQ latin lounge great music.
Now for bars, you have Bar None located on 6th ave & 14th street and Red Sky on 29th street between Park and Madison. Have fun!

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt right near Grand Central Station which was very nice - My two favorite memories from that trip (aside from singing at Carnegie Hall) were going to Birdland to hear world class jazz and going to see The Lion King on Broadway (not cheap but very well worth the money)
