That's just a "fix-it" ticket. Provide proof of repairs within the time specified and there's usually no cost at all. Worst case, maybe $10.00 for the paperwork.

Fix-it ticket. $20 these days in CA.
But here's the real issue: driving without brake lights (or malfuntioning lights) is the easiest and fastest way for you to get rear-ended and possibly injured or killed (or to possibly injure or kill the person who rear-ends you. So many drivers today are so distracted that without bright, glowing red lights they'd just run right the f- into the back of your car. Look at how many people do it every day in your town with *working* brake lights.
So do yourself and that distracted soccer mom (and her kids) behind you a favor and get your sh*t fixed. Thank you.

It's likely a moving violation. In Missouri it would be 2 points on your liscense and a $40-$45 fine.

This is usually a fix it ticket. Once fixed, a police officer usually has to check it to sign it off (his signature on ticket). May have to pay a $10.00 filing fee with DMV or local court house.

I know in Ohio as long as you have one functioning light it is okay. If you don't have any that could pose a problem.
