in exodus 15:3 he says that " the lord is a MAN of war and the lord is his name" what does he mean MAN?
and in exodus 11:5 he killed all the first born of egypt.
these children had commited no crime but were punished anyway.
that is a sure sign of a bully.

THat's my man, now you see it. Yes he was a bully. And many xians tell me he has the right to do it because he made us. So he made humans, then sits there and slaughters our children. Seems cowardly/bully-ish to me.

It was simply a punishment to those who had strayed from the flock (the Egyptians) and enslaved his people (the Israelites). Could one view this as harsh? Possibly.
I also want to take a shot at the ignorance displayed on this board. Everyone attributes this verse to Christians, but Exodus is part of the Old Testament, and is only grandfathered into Christianity from Judaism. If one were to compare Old and New testaments, they would see that God was not particularly vengeful after the time of Christ.
If everyone has to be attacking God, everyone should be attacking the Jewish interpretation of the Lord, although attacking God is stupid in itself. If you're a believer, you're condemning yourself, and if you're a non-believer, you're arguing about what you believe is a fictional character. Sad.

God is not a "bully". Physical death is not the end, and those who die for the Lord's sake will receive eternal life.

For those who have made comments about how bad Christens are, Judaism and Islam except a lot of the Old Testament from the bible. There have been mistranslation in most religious texts, and mistakes made by members of all major religions, but that does not mean that religion is bad. If everyone practiced any of the major religions faithfully, it would be a better world. It is those few extremists, and misguided souls that ruin it for the rest of us.

Its very ignorant to take two small versus in the Bible and base your perception of God on it. Read Exodus in its entirety, he had a reason for doing that. So as his people were escaping thru the Red Sea, he killed the Egyptians that were going after them, does that mean he was a bully for saving His people? Read the entire book, or even better, the entire Bible. You will see that God has a reason for all he does, but most of all, He loves us dearly. And so what if he can be a bully, He's God, he can do whatever he wants, and it is still perfect.

God is the owner and he calls the shots whether you like them or not. He will be back again and will put an end to all of his enemies. For sure his enemies will not like it or him, but he does what he wants. For you a bully, for me King of Kings and Lord of Lords. and a man of war also..

2Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Mal 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

Let's say that you have designed and installed a beautiful garden for your children, with lots of wonderful flowers and fruit trees, shade trees and a beautiful lawn. Then, one night someone comes into the garden and hacks the plants to pieces, pours bleach and salt all over everything and takes your children captive. Then he puts your children to hard labor and ignores your pleas to let the children go.

What would you do?

In Exodus, Israel is God's children and garden. They are His beloved and being miserably mistreated. Why do you think he is a bully for rescuing His beloved from the bondage and slavery? It's because he loves that he will deal harshly with anyone who messes with his beloved.

Wouldn't you?

More like a terrorist if you just follow Exodus. In 15:3 Moses is saying the power of God to wage war against tyranny will be imbued in Man.

Not that Leviticus gets much better, but the "bully" part would be better asked of Jonah.

well, first of all, God made no distinction between children or adults. All were the same. It was the community and culture that appalled him. Man is a vicious crazy asss, murderous fool, and sometimes harsh punishment is necessary to save the whole species. Just my philosophical opinion.

GOD gave Ramsis a choice. He was the one who was going to kill the first born first. So, GOD had to show him that if he didn't have faith in him and believe, he would make him believe. Besides, they had a choice. They could have put lambs blood on their doors, but they refused. So, GOD is not a bully. He is a GOD of his word.

God is all powerful, he can do anything. He could stop all pain and suffering if he wished, yet he doesn't. And, most Christians believe that everything that happens is part of God's plan, caused by God. Does that make him a bully? Or maybe just a really bad Chess player?
