You are right on the money with this question.
- Yes, when people hit the START button, they don't notice that it says Windows XP.
- Yes, when people have Internet Explorer open, they don't see that it says Internet Explorer on the title bar. They don't know what WORD is.
- Yes, they don't know the difference between Outlook Express and Outlook.
It's right in their face.
Oddly enough. If you told someone they are IGNORANT without the reference of a computer, they get MAD. But if you mention that they are Computer Ignorant, or other derogatory remark, the AGREE.
So we (the computer geeks) have to tolerate.

You can know exactly what your computer is doing by watching the processes. The reason the processes are transparent to the user on the surface is because if the system made you aware of every function you would be so bogged down in that you would never get anything done. Your processor is performing millions of calculations per second. Do you really want to know them all?

Actually if you want to see what your "Windows" operating system is doing, you just click --- Alt + Ctrl + Delete - - all at the same time and then you can choose "task manager". In this window you can see everythign your OS is doing in the background. You can see and edit which processes are running and how much memory and or processing power each process is using. Look around in there, but be careful wich processes you cancell or you might get yourself into some trouble.

Well Computer is the most advance machinese of all. So the systems are mostly complicated for normal users. There are many spywares which acctack our computers but we dont know if it is acctacking our computer. if you press Alt+Ctrl+Del then you know certain programs which run in the background. If you have virus problem then you better disable system restore first as thats the place where most virus and sywares hide. There are many free antivirus softwares which works quite well. I use AVG free edition and ewidow anti-spyware. They work quite well. Xp is mostly affected by virus as there are many places for them to hide. To be free from virus u better disable the hibernation and system restore first. If your having show pc problem then you can jus disable all the appearance. You can go to run in the start menu and then type msconfig then run. and on the startup you can disable the things you dont need. I have disabled all the things eccept my antivirus and anti-spyware. My computer gives me no problem at all.

Many users don't want or least interested to know the internal details of how the system is working, they will concentrate on whether they can do their work or not. Few people may be interested in that for which they can dig the system and find out.

Because the OS works in the background and is not visible to the user unless the user uses specific apps or utilities to see what is going on. It is that way by design. Do you want to know what your computer is computing? It would be distracting and would impede your activities.

Why would a user want to know what the operating system is doing, they only care that their applications work properly.
