Any fracture is going to be painful. Depending on what bones where broken depends on if you will be able to walk. More than likely you will be on crutches for a while again depending on how severe and which bones were broken. The only bone to break and still be able to be able to put some pressure on the leg would be the fibula because it does not bear any weight. Most other bones in that area bear a lot of weight.

I had a very small fracture in my ankle about 2 yrs ago-- it was awful. It also swelled up very quickly & turned green & purple.
Get to the doctor right away & get an Xray.
They can either put a cast on your foot or at least give you one of those boots to wear w/ a compression bandage & some crutches.
I couldn't put any weight on that foot for several days.
good luck

Years ago I fractured by ankle while hiking and walked down off the mountain on it. It hurts, enough to make you want to throw up or pass out, but if you have a support to lean on, you can walk on it if you must.

If you think you broke yours, go to your doctor. They don't heal well treated at home.

my husband fractured his ankle about 1 1/2 weeks ago and yes he still could walk but it hurt tremdously so he used his crutches. He isn't one that likes to take pain medication and he was taking it 3-4 times a day for about a week so i imagine it hurt quite a bit.

if you have a high pain tolerance like I do, then yes you can walk with a totally broken ankle. Sure it hurts but it can be done.
