Catholicism was the first Christian denomination and all other denominations broke off and changed things. I don't see it often. But I have seen it in a couple of places.

LOL Robert K!!!! I grew up Catholic and we read the Bible alllllll the time. Catholics keep things true and don't change to conform to society such as accepting gay marriage and adultery. We keep our beliefs.

Well, miss giggles, it does say in the Bible that homosexuality is a sin. It's adultery. It goes along the same lines as beastiality and incest. If you want to know where in scripture it says that, email me and I'll let you know.

JessiO, we have lent because Moses walked the desert for 40 days and 40 nights and therefore we sacrifice something for 40 days and 40 nights. Now as to you saying we worship MARY that's just something silly that people like to say. Catholic churches are the only church that has a crucifex at the front of the church. We respect Mary. Basically it's her womb we respect because her fruits bore Jesus.

What is referred to today as Christianity vs Catholic is from the split at the Reformation - Martin Luther nailed a paper to the church door stating what he saw as problems with the current Catholic church. He didn't mean to cause a split, rather he wanted to point out some wrongs and help fix the church he loved. The Catholic church had become corrupt, leaders out for money lying to the parishoners and extorting money from them in exchange for "get out of hell free" cards.
Today, I don't claim to know much, but it still seems like a ritual based religion where people don't have to practice it full time, but just show up a couple times for mass and fast something for Lent. I talk to a lot of people that don't even know why they do these things. It's just a ritual or religious duty. They don't seem to know Christ, they pray to Mary and other saints, they just think that if they do these couple things that they're saved.
I know that not all Catholics are this way, but the few that I know personally are. Mother Theresa was an amazing woman whose life reflected her relationship with God. There are "christians" within the catholic church. But from my view, there seem to be a lot more that appear to be simply hedging their bets. They don't have a personal relationship with Christ and they aren't trying to live a righteous life. They just want to take their semi-annual bath and hope they look clean when the judgement comes.

Because some Protestant sects want to distance themselves as much as possible from the Catholic Church which is their roots. When you come into existence through a rebellion, as protestantism did, the pressure is on you to demonstrate that what you rebelled against is BAD. Claiming that the original Christian Church is not even Christian is about as BAD an accusation as they can make. If they took an honest look, and found that the Holy Catholic Church is actually what it claims to be, then it would be apparent that their rebellion itself was BAD, and that their entire tradition is not compatible with the will of God. That thought terrifies many Protestants to the point where they won't even read any unbiased Christian history. Instead they are content to read Jack Chick's poison, and to make ridiculous unsupportable accusations against the Church Jesus Himself founded for all mankind.

Catholics and Chrisitans are NOT the same. Christians accept Jesus as their savior and do not confess their sins to a mortal man. Christians teach the true word of God and not their own doctrine. Chrsitianity and Catholisism were never the same thing. I am a former catholic. If I han not accepted Jesus as my savior and left the catholic church, I would not have my place secured in heaven but would have ended up in hell. Praise the Lord that He sent me a young man to led me to Jesus.

They are. Christianity believes that The Holy Bible is THE INFALLIBLE WORD of God.
Catholics think of it as TRADITION.

For the MOST part, Catholics believe that the priest is supposed to do the studying in The Bible FOR them. Christians believe that reading the Word is one way God speaks to them.

Catholics pray to Mother Mary and Saints. Christians pray to Father God Only, in Jesus' name.

Just SOME of the mass differences in Religion and Relationship.

If you follow the historical lineage of Catholicism from the present Pope to the very first in St Peter, you will see the link like our present President to the very first President of the United States. You will see the legitimacy.

Some, Christians would like to be saved by making their own rules instead of following God's specific commandments. They bend and twist the rules for their own convenience. For example, the Protestantism movements, started with Martin Luther in Germany. He really wanted to get married to a nun he was in love with, not to mention he also wanted to keep the money collected instead of being remitted to Rome.
In the case of King Henry the VIII of England, he also wanted to divorce his wife, the Queen and marry another woman in Anne Boleyn. Sad to say both religious protestant leaders died of 'Syphillis', a form of a sexual disease. Also the bottom line is money. Religion is big business. The big collections and tax exemptions are mind staggering.
And a lot of religious sects right now are self serving and are not materially detached to exercise true charity as in the case of Mother Theresa, who practiced voluntary poverty and served the poorest of the poor.

Jenny, Catholics are the unique Christians. The Christian church lines its roots back to the disciples of Christ. over the years, the assumption of papal infallibility on concerns of religion AND MORALS developed. Many catholics did no longer consider this guideline of the religion. additionally, by potential of the 1500's, there develop right into a great form of corruption contained in the church, tremendously appropriate to indulgences. (to understand an indulgence, you would be able to desire to be attentive to the Catholic concept of purgatory.) besides, think of of an indulgence as getting time without work from a penal complex sentence. properly, for the duration of the 1500's, some bishops -- tremendously contained in the northern international locations like Germany and France -- have been advertising indulgences. This develop into between the small print that Martin Luther, a Catholic priest and a professor of theology on the college of Wittenberg, Germany, argued develop into incorrect with the church. As people began to develop into self reliant from from Catholicism, they seen themselves to be pioneers in a circulate to reform Christianity. component of that reformation develop into the rejection of the authority of the Pope. because of the fact modern-day Catholics nonetheless have faith contained in the pope and settle for the guideline that as quickly as he speaks on concerns of religion and morals, he's infallible, different Christians question whether Catholics stick to the Bible or the Pope. To a lot of people, it would not seem achieveable that one ought to have faith in the two. . .

Many, if not most self professed Christian religions are not Christian, since Jesus said that there would be many who "Claim" to speak in his name. The question is in figuring out which are which?
