respecting a belief requires full respect, not assumptions of what will happen in death,so when i hear people say,"you will burn" to me that is telling me that i will burn because i dont beleive what they do,wouldnt it make more sense to just keep your mouth shut,i dont go around saying, well all that happens when you die is you go six feet under, period.that is my opinion, but i dont express it till im asked, because i know not everyone believes like i do.i think its more disrespectful to hear where you will go based on someone elses belief.thats pretty snooty in my opinion, any thoughts? no insults,i have insulted no one, anyone see my point?i welcome all opinions.

If any christian tells someone where they will go that christian is showing remarkable disrespect and an amazing lack of understanding for their own alleged christian belief. We are admonished by Christ himself to 'judge not lest you be judged'. We don't know where we or anyone else is going. God alone can tell us that. I certainly don't presume to step in and handle that decision for God.

Yeah, well guess what. None of those people agree with each other. Baptists will trash the Pentecostals. Pentecostals will say the Baptists are wrong. Jehovah's Witnesses will tell you that only they are going to heaven. Seventh Day Adventists will tell you that they are the only ones who will escape hell. They simply don't believe in the same things. If they did, then there would not be so many different churches with denominational differences!

It's all a game of who can get the most members for their churches, and who can get the most money. Do you really think that TV evangelists care about your soul and where it is going? Why would they care, just as long as you are sending them lots of money and helping them build empires that are worth millions and millions of dollars?

So, if you don't share their beliefs and don't support them financially, then the ultimate revenge is the scare tactic, telling you that you are not welcome in heaven and that your only fate is to burn in hell FOREVER. Pretty disgusting!

They aren't really telling you that you will burn because you don't have the same belief system as they have.

When you hear a statement like "You will burn if you don't change your ways," you can assume that they mean that "I believe that you will burn if you don't change your ways."

That's not something that you should get upset about. In fact, you should be thankful that the person is expressing his beliefs directly rather than clouding his opinions with nuance.

There is no one here who is righteous enough to take God's place as Judge is my opinion. You have every right to believe or not. If you have had the opportunity to become educated about all of the religions available to you and have found that none of them "do anything" for you atheism is always an option. As long as you respect me, I can respect you. If you cannot respect me then I can remove myself from the debate and leave it where it lies.

I agree with you generally...but in this question/answer forum, isn't it implicitly assumed that people are here to share their beliefs??? Perhaps you're hanging out in the wrong place if you don't want to hear about other people's opinions about religion...

Just because someone believes something doesn't mean what they believe is true. What matters is the evidence. I do agree, though, that there needs to be a lot more civility in dialogue.

It's not my place to judge where you are going. That's up to God. I won't force my beliefs on anyone. I will give my opinion and enough information to make people accountable.

I respect persons regardless of their beliefs, but I don't respect beliefs I know to be false.

the bible never tell you to respect a belief that is wrong. no jesus no heaven...pretty simple math. I think you are confusing someone trying to tell you the truth with disrespect. If its wrong why should I cater to it?
