I have nothing against anyone because of their religion. But does it bother the decent people who don't believe in God that there are so many who are hateful against christians. I ask because it bothers me as a christian that so many judge non-christians simply for their religion. I just see alot of questions here where people say things like "Why do you christians murder and kill....etc" What an odd statement. Then I see christians say that athiests are evil blah blah... so are decent athiests as bothered by this as decent christians?

I'm an atheist and I hate to see anybody attack anyone's religion. I find that it is a bit worse when people fight and kill over religion because I have yet to come across a religion, in this day and age, that tells its followers to kill non-believers.
When atheist come here asking why Christians kill and murder, they aren't being atheists for the right reason: non-belief, they are atheists because of anger or hatred towards religion which in my opinion is the worst reason to believe anything. nothing good comes of anger or hatred.
It may be that some ask the question about Christians murdering or doing evil because of the hypocrisy that this would show, but these are only a few Christians not all of them.

It's best to do like I do when people tell me I'm going to hell for non-belief or living an empty life without faith, I ignore them.

I just answered a similar question posed by Jim Darwin. Everyone must be on the same wavelength today.

I think debates and disagreements can be utilized in such a way as to open people's eyes to each other's beliefs and inspire understanding. That's a good thing.

What I have little tolerance for is the bashing and name calling from all sides. There's no excuse for it, no good can possibly come from it, and all it does is propegate hate.

Yes, I am bothered when fellow atheists start bashing. Probably more so than when I am bashed by a believer. Reason being, fellow atheists bashing Christians, Muslims, et al are just hammering another nail into our coffins. Or at least that's how I feel.

I'm not bothered as much when a non-atheist bashes me, because I take comfort in the fact that a member of their religion is cringing in horror at the hate they are spouting.

I see no hate in DuckPhup's statement - just facts. No matter how decent you are as a person, you are still deluded by religion. Why is that hateful? You, as a Christian, beleive that I, no matter how decent, am going to be cast into Hellfire for not swallowing your religion...is that hateful too?
What I do notice about your posting is this - you are being judgemental of DuckPhup and his position. Judge not, lest ye be judged is a teaching from your lord. Why the difficulty in adhereing to it??

Personally, no I do not get botthered when I am judged or ridiculed by a person of faith. As an Atheist, I understand and acknowledge that this is their beleif system, and they can wish me to hell all they want - but it wont make Hell a real place, and it wont affect me. So it doesnt bother me at all. In fact, I find it quite amusing that every time Im told this, I am being judged...by those that are commanded not to judge me!

There are extremists on either side of the issue. If you're a Christian, I'm fine with it. As far as the hatefulness, most true Atheists I met are not hateful towards Christians.

The people that are hateful are usually not atheists but some sort of theistic person who believes in a higher power but is angry at that power for some reason or another and vents his or her anger against Christians.

I consider these people in the same category of idiots as the Christians that try to force their beliefs on others.

Well, duh.

Regardless of religious or non-religious belief systems, there are a lot of hate filled robots out in the world (especially on the Internet) who live for no other reason than to make someone else feel bad.

I'm not in a position to say why someone would be that way. Perhaps they loathe themselves so much that the only way they can achieve a modicum of validation is to villify others. Maybe their mothers dropped them on their tender little heads when they were two months old. I don't know.

But I do know that in my un-belief, I feel more love for humanity than ever. Atheist means caring, sensitive, understanding, etc. Not all atheists are out for blood. We just want to be given the same kind of respect you'd give any fellow human that cares for the world and the future.

I think people will always be spouting off one way or the other. Some christians will knock atheists, some atheists will knock christians, it'll never end. I just try to ignore both sides of the arguments, neither group deserves the attention they are seeking by harassing one another so I just try not to care. I'm an atheist myself, well, sort of, I have my beliefs and they are what they are, they don't fall into any category per say, but that doesn't really matter does it? Because my beliefs don't make me who I am, my actions decide that. And the actions taken by those to whom you refer reflect greatly on who they are, sad really, but they'll grow out it one day and just live and let live.

As an atheist of course we are. I will tell you though, that I will continue to poke fun at the Christian religion. Those people who get all upset and attack back are not true Christians. They are impostors. I have met only TWO true Christians on here. These are people that are not fundamentalists, they don't attack others, and they accept the slap in the face by my questions with dignity. THAT has earned them my respect and I treat them as well as I possibly can. They are my friends and I am happy to call them such. When some other Christian can prove to me they are more than that in name, I will also call them friend.

not at all. I'm an Atheist i don't mind your religion( no matter which god you worship) just don't try to sell it to me, or jump on me verbally, which so many religious people do. i don't belittle any religion until the attack turns on atheist. I'm not evil, i don't hurt people and we all know the christian religion in America has no room to throw stones at any one. we all do wrong no one is better than the other.

It is bothersome, but why do people always just assume that there are two types of people in this world...Christians and Atheists?
Not everybody who doesn't believe in Christianity is automatically an atheist.

It's not just you, but I've noticed that a lot, lately.

I am, yes, if someone willfully attempts to make someone else feel bad, or attack them. But you must remember that one man's criticism is another man's insult.

Religion is a taboo subject, and it incites anger at the drop of a hat. The very definition of atheism is considered insulting to many Christians. And you will find that they get angry a lot faster than the atheists do...

But we accept their hatred of us. Most atheist used to be Christians, and we know how they think. We are rarely surprised... just woefully disappointed.
