By definition.
If you study histoey you will realise that christianity was invented in order to stop all this thinking stuff.
The Roman Empire had become so large that it was difficult to control all the people in all the lands. So Christianity was invented, and the problem went away.
I think that your problem is an American thing.
In England most people call themselves Christian, but less than 2% go to church.
This is because they believe in the basic tenets of Christianity, which do present a sensible way of getting along with your fellow man, but Brits don't have to be reminded how to behave one day per week.

I assume that you are a self-thinker and therefore your education and intelligence is far above that of any Christian. Quote: "I wanna smash his head open and then wipe my *** with the Bible.
Well there you go, that's fix that ******* Christian. I am a Christian but personally I don't care one way or the other what you believe and you in turn should feel the same way about me and other Christians. Why debate a Christian if you feel that way?
What's the point? If you don't believe, you don't believe, that's all.
We, Christains, may have it all wrong, so what? How does that effect you, personally?
You say we can't think for ourselves, but isn't that what religion is about, making up one's mind about what to believe? The Bible is a guide and that is all it is. I, myself, know little about the Bible because I believe there is a lot of useless info there. Although I have read most of it. Still the Bible is not needed to believe.
In a related story this week, the Amish have taught me just how far I have go to be Godly. They accepted the shooting at their school and just stood there. One Amish man said, "Death is more important then birth, since we believe in the hereafter the dead are better off then the living." Call that blind faith or whatever you want to but it works very well for them. And surely you and I can be assured that no Amish man or woman would ever "smash your our head open" or ever even make such a statement.

Personally, I don't go around shoving my religion down people's throat and telling them they'll go to hell if they don't believe it. That's not what God meant by saying Spread my Word Unto the Ends of the Earth. I live a life that will glorify him and maybe my life will inspire someone to follow along. I'm sorry if you've been "attacked" by other Christians. I know alot of ppl like that..the ones that look at everyones mistakes...points them out. What alot of people don't understand is that the Bible has alot of verses that can be interpreted differently and alot of symbolism. Also alot of the verses were meant to be applied to a certain time period. For example; in the old test. it said women shouldn't have short hair...but look around today...plenty of girls with short hair. This doesn't mean they are sinning, that particular verse was probably meant for that time period. Sometimes it might be hard for a Christian to explain their belief because alot of it is a matter of personal faith. How can you describe to a blind person what the color red looks like? It's not that the Christian is dumb, they just might have a hard time explaining what they feel. The next time someone approaches you about faith, try being patient, hear them out and then tell them what you believe and why. Just have an open mind about it.

Jesus' "sword" is the Word of God. He often spoke in parables. Notice that He never even laid as much as a FINGER on any weapon.
Go to www.christiananswers.net and you may find the information you're looking for. Wanting to smash someone's head open because a Christian seemed too judgemental sounds like you also may need anger management.
Christians do think for themselves just like the person above me stated. We choose Heaven over Hell.
I would also suggest reading "The Victory of Reason" by Rodney Stark.

Matt S. why is it so wrong that people have something to believe in? when there Parents or there friend is dying why is so wrong to hope that they are in a better place. I for one am a christian who thinks for myself. I do believe that homosexuals should be allowed to marry and live without being judged. I don't think if you have a puff of weed or if you get drunk once in a while you are going to hell. and i don't think god will hate me if i have sex with someone before i am married. I have my own personal relationship with god. sure the Bible has contradictions but is it so bad to take the ones you like an apply them to your life to be come a better person. Are you going to kill someone because it says not to in the bible are you going to cheat on your wife because it says not to in the bible?!?!

The Word of God is Jesus' sword.
You sound like you may need some counseling or therapy because of your anger and hatred.
Also, this question is soooo worn out. The same rants are posted here several times daily both about Christians, atheists, Muslims, Judaism, and other beliefs. It serves no purpose and is usually people who are filled with anger and hate that post them.

oooooo..... somebody needs a prayer and a hug!!!
hey, just as i said to yet another 'non-believer', take a chill pill. what are you so angry about? keep doin' what you're doin' and have no worries. stand proud and firm on the fact that christians are crazy!!! now, i will advise you to do better research and interpretations of what that crazy christian manual says (bible), because there are actually a few of those folk that believe they have a personal relationship with this God dude and only quote those stupid verses to give a documented reference for their basis. so, you keep on keepin' on, buddy and when you get to hell, email me and let me know: 'how's tha weather down there?' peace... by any means necessary!

I'm affended. I can think for myself. I'm a Christain but have enough of a back seat view of that I observe my fellow more zealous friends more then follow the hearder. I did read the Di Vinch Code by Dan Brown. I love that book. I find it interesting that our religion may have started out with pagans. Of course we as humans in general have stolen so many things to put in our beliefs. Just look how the Romans took Greek ideas. And how Eygiptions stole ideas from Romans. Thousands, thousands of years ago. Well I'm blabbling. I'm not going to try to convert you. Expect a lot of grumpy answers for this question.

Not a contradiction. You're just listening with your mental ears instead of your heart is all. The Word of God is not discerned that way. The Word of God is spirit and can only be discerned spiritually.
And, personally, I like the way God thinks. I have no problem with the way He thinks. That is why I speak His Word. If someone is going to speak on someone else's behalf, then that someone should use the person's own words, don't you think? If someone were speaking on my behalf, I would prefer they use my words and not their own. If that doesn't make sense, then I really can't help you.

Wanting to assault anyone for reasons of religion (or irreligion) makes you just another fanatic terrorist.
Everyone has a right to their opinion and to state their opinion without being assaulted or threatened.
Had you acted upon your impulses, you would have quite rightly been locked into a cage like the rabid animal you are.
What is the matter with you for wanting to hurt another human being?
Maybe you are the one in need of that message of peace, for you are the one wanting to do violence when none has been done to you. That sword Jesus spoke of has always been in the hands of people like you and that monster in Lancaster county, Pa who rape and kill innocents for their beliefs.
Why?
