Honorable Discharge is just that . Honorable
General Discharge is where you half way didn't work out and you got yourself a ticket home.
Both still give Benefits and works in your favor for job placement after you get out .
Undesirable Discharge means your not working out and you get that ticket home .
Dishonorable Discharge would be where you screwed up big time . If your not doing jail time your lucky...

These are the difference between good paying jobs and bad ones...

The five types of discharges are:

Honorable
General
Undesirable
Bad Conduct
Dishonorable

The top two (Honorable and General) leave the person eligible for benefits, such as VA mortgages and treatment at VA hospitals. Recipients of the other discharges usually lose such benefits.

Other than the fact that it is not "Honorable," there is little difference between an Honorable discharge and a General discharge. The General discharge is issued if a person's contract with the military is cut short for various reasons, such as health or a prior situation coming to light. If you are in a non-military-related car crash while you are in the service and no longer meet the health standards, you could get a General discharge. It means that you are still eligible for all your benefits but didn't complete your obligation.

I think an honorable discharge means all the duties and obligations were met, while a general discharge means the person is let out of the military for some other reason, but it's not a dishonorable discharge (which is when the person actually broke the rules). My sister got a general discharge after Desert Storm because the military didn't want to have to live up to its promise to help her get custody of her kids back when she came home. By giving her a general discharge, she not nothing--no honor, no support, nothing. True story.

An honorable duscharge means a "clean" tour of duty and a genera; discharge covers tainted but not necessarily a criminal enlistment for instance a person having problems as a single parent could get a general discharge and can re-enlist if the matter is resolved.

A general discharge means there has ben some offense committed, but not a crime, which would disqualify for an honorable. An honorable is a discharge with no marks on your record.
