I just got my wonderful little min pinscher a few days ago, and she is akc registered and also registered with another agency. She is purebred. She is black and rust. How do i know if she is show material? i would love to show her if possible, i think she would also like it as she loves people and other dogs. any info is greatly appreciated!

If you can't find a Min Pin show breeder in your area, to give your dog an evaluation, then this book will be very helpful> http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Miniature-Pinscher-Reigning-King-of-Toys-Howell-Re_W0QQitemZ250035361415QQihZ015QQcategoryZ11114QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
You need to know, not just what the breed standard says about the perfect min pin, but how to interpret the standard.. Howell books are always great for educating about the breed, and are fun to read..this one is well worth having. You can order it at your local book shop, or order it from amazon books..

However! You can show ANY registered dog, so it would be great fun, just to get out with your local kennel club, and even enter fun matches, such as activity (obedience/agility, etc) ..
If you can't find your local kennel club, through your local pet supplies, grooming shops, vet clinics, etc..just email me..but please check locally first.

Unfortunately, show quality puppies are best bought from a breeder who specializes in breeding for the show ring. AKC registered only means she is purebred.

If you are TRULY interested, you can do a google search or go through the AKC site and find the parent club in the US for Min Pin's. Then they can direct you to the closest club in your area. I would suggest joining the club and getting to know the people. I would go to dog shows and hang out with the Min Pin people. You will be able to find a breeder/mentor to work with you. They can look at your dog and give you an honest assessment if your pup is worth showing. Just because it's cute doesn't mean it's up to the AKC standard.

Hope this helps.

If you check the AKC website they will have a section on your breed that will give you the "breed standard" which will consist of height, weight, bone structure, attitude, and several other things...I would start there...you can read and then use your judgement...if you think that your pup meets these then you should go for it.....the idea of a good show dog is one that meets all those standards as close as possible....good luck

Get her checked out by a professional trainer (go to a couple, some just take your money even if they know the dog will never show); min pin's are very bold, so disposition may be a concern; good luck!

First, you need to post a picture of her for anyone to get the SLIGHTEST clue as to whether she is show quality in looks. You will also want to get an expert on the breed to look at her. They will feel her bone structure, look at her top line, croup, head, etc. and will be able to tell you. Additionally, you will want to enter her into a conformation show when she is old enough to be shown in the puppy class.
Reguardless if she is show quality or not, have fun with her!

Do your homework. Go to shows, if you can, and meet other owners and show people. Do research on the internet and your library. Good books should show you the ideal conformation. Good luck

your best bet would be to find a breeder of Min Pins in your area, call and ask if they would evaluate your dog.
