You get an equal amount of genetic material from each side. And your parents will have a mix of genes themselves.

So look back a generation or two. If there's a mix, then it's hard to predict. If it's mostly one or the other or in between, then that's more likely.

Nutrition also plays a big part. Here in Scotland, the average height used to be tall. For the last couple of centuries, it's been relatively short. Now it's shooting up again -- and very quickly, such a difference between the generation that's coming into adulthood now and folks just a few years older. The genetic trait has always been there, just masked by poor diet.

iam 6 foot 4" male mydad is 6 foot 2" so it could be a male thing my dauhter is 9 and is tall for her age so maybe she will carry the gene onto female generations my wifes height is 5 foot 2"

Take (Dad's height + Mom's height)/2 (+ 4 in. for boys) (- 4 in. for girls)

you get genetic matierial from both sides, the dominant gene will determine the trait.
