The Arabic word in that verse is "Auliyaa" it does not mean friends, it means Governors or Guardians. Do not take them as Guardians of your Religion or Interpreters, consultants etc. The translation is wrong
Auliyaa is plural for wali Im sure you've heard that word before. Like a womans Wali/ legal guardian? Yes same word It does not mean friends

Hajj became additionally between the omit- practiced rituals in the previous began by Abraham and later introduced to its genuine sort returned by Mohammad. Why this fellow has quoted those practices right here, is by way of the fact he needs to misguide the fact seekers.

the word "Awliaa" in Arabic doesnt mean friend as a friend.
Bob beat me!!! i agree with him. that's what the word Awliaa means.
and just to prove this translation wrong, Amru ibn el Aas converted to Islam on the hands of his CHRISTIAN friend ( alnagashey) king of Habasha.
he also had Coptic christian friends in Egypt. and that was during the time of Prophet Muhammed.
Muslims fought the Romans in Egypt and liberated the christians from the oppression of the Romans.
History shows how Islam is the one and only religion that can get along with other religions.

i am a muslim too.but as you know, the koran was written in arabic not in english, so when you translate it like that in english its not always the same meaning as it is supposed to be in arabic.personally,i practice my religion the way that i feel is right to me.if i am 100% sure that this is the right way to live,i will do it.but i personally have both christian and jewish friends and i dont think that they are bad people.not all muslims are nice people as in any religion or culture.you can find good and bad anywhere and everywhere.

Here's a clearer translation:
[5:51] O you who believe, do not take certain Jews and Christians as allies; these are allies of one another. Those among you who ally themselves with these belong with them. GOD does not guide the transgressors.

cuz if u see the historyof jews n christians .. they r always against the Muslims .. Jews are very clever ppl in negative side .. n christians are supporting them in their negaitve acts !!!! just look at Pope's remarks on Islam !!!! n look at jews who r sucking ur money n killing innocent muslims by using ur money for making bullets n WMD's !!!!
a very few number of christians are good .. n beleive in Islam .. n thus they convert to Islam later !!! talkin abt jews .. the good ones are eqaul to SALT in FLOUR !!!! again the good ones (who know the TERRORIST plans of jews n zionists ) they convert to Islam . !!!!

On the one hand, the Koran says to respect Christians and Jews. (People of the book.) On the other hand is the verse you posted. The Koran is full of conflicting statements.
Trust the Bible instead.

Why? I don't know. But maybe this is why so many Christians are questioning the validity and the "peacefulness" of Islam. Doesn't sound like love to me. How about you?
