It is bad for cat's to eat human foods. My cat does it only when he smells meat in the kitchen. (sandwitch meat especially!) He meow's like crazy! So every time he meows, I tell him firmly NO. He started getting stuborn, and even tried climbing up my leg! I try to kick him out of the kitchen (not litterally), or make sure he's not on the table while I'm eating. It seems like the more I give in, the worse he gets! So my advice, just don't give him a taste, and hopefully he'll forget how much he liked it, and leaves you alone! Good luck, I hope mine stops too!

I may be going out on a limb here, but maybe the cat is not really looking for the food, maybe it is looking for attention. Same as cats will come and try to sit in front of a book that you are reading or the newspaper. Again you cant give into this, dont put your dinner down to pay attention to the cat. You also cant forget that cats are very curious creatures, and always want to be in the middle of things. I dont suggest that you seclude the cat while you eat, instead invest in a small spray bottle and keep it handy while you are eating, if the cat starts to cry while you are eating, spray a small stream in its face. The cat will move and eventually learn.

My cat does this, too. Since she has cat food in her dish and she even meows at me for things she won't possibly eat (pickles, raisins, etc.) I suspect it's socialization she's wanting. But, socializing with a fuzzy cat while I'm eating gets a little hairy.
So, what I do is distract her with a tiny pinch of catnip, which I place on the floor beside her. She always gets busy eating it, then rolls around on it for a while, and then apparently gets "the munchies" for cat food. By the time this happens I've usually finished eating and the dishes are done.

it is not rude crude evil mean or inhumane to spray a cat with water. Pick up the cats food for over-night, when it's time for breakfast, put down an amount of food the cat usually eats in one sitting....when the cat is finished, put the food somewhere out of site/reach, at lunch, put the bowl down with a little food and pick up uneaten and put away, same thing at dinner. EVERY TIME your cat comes to the table to beg, spray it with water....the cat may be mad at you the first time or two, but will not hate you...they have to learn who's boss and to respect you....You should never feed any animal from the table....some things are very harmful to their systems and some toxic.......

He is doing it b/c you are giving him a taste. You have to stop feeding it. He knows that if he continues to cry, you will eventually give in and let him have some. Just like a baby crying in his crib and you going to pick him up. Don't reward him for his cry.
Trust me.....I have learned the hard way. I have two dogs and I spoiled the first one by feeding him off my plate and now he stares at me everytime I eat. My other dog has never had people food and she could care less when I am eating.
Good luck!

I won't B rude, promise.
Never, ever give in & let him have a taste, again.
Made a Rod 4 UR own back doing that!
It is bad 4 Cat 2 eat human food.
U may have 2 either consider shutting him out when U eat.
Start from scratch B firm & tell him NO!
Avoid eye-contact while UR eating.
He's just pushing his luck coz U give in.
DON'T.

I think part of the problem is that you started giving him tastes to begin with. When it is time for you two to eat tell him no. If he keeps crying take him to a different room and close the door until you are finished and then let him out. He will eventually get trained not to beg.

cats are needy, and I kthink you see that now. They are vey loving animals and I think yours sees sharing food as a way you bond. all animals share there love differently. My dog does the same thing, and so does my bird. My dog will sit as far away as possible, but stare ar me. As if she is studying my eating. My bird will squack really loud while I am cooking because she knows dinner is comming. If you want the behavior to stop then you need to stop feeding her. But otherwise cats can eat most people food, just watch her weight.

You are the "alpha cat" to this feline! My cats always want my food as well, but they know better then to start meowing until they see I'm just about done; then they get little treats....and I mean little; don't get them into the habit of giving them human food; If your cat goes on a hunger strike, don't give in...they will eventually eat-just trying to push your buttons!

My kitten does the same thing. You made a mistake by giving him some. Put him in a different room when you eat or keep a water bottle on hand and squirt him every time he begs. He will stop then!
