I was diagnosed with scoliosis when i was 12 years old. I have two pretty severe curves in my back. I was given a brace and never wore it and until recently have opted out of sergery (I am now 22 and am having it done next summer). Durring middle and high school i was VERY active in dance, cheerleading, basketball and soccer. So, in my case, no it did not decrease my ability to be athletic or participate in athletics, i did not allow it to. With the help of an occasional pain killer or anti-inflamitory I did fine. Not to say that it didnt hurt (very severly at times) but it was important to me to stay active so i sacrificed. I hope i have helped, best of luck to you!

It really all depends on the severity of the curvature in your spine and how far it has progressed. A minor curve in your spine that hasn't gotten worse will not impede your ability to perform in a sports situation that much. I would suggest making sure you REALLY stretch out (especially your lower back muscle) before playing (as you should anyway). But, most importantly, I would simply make sure you're keeping yourself aware of how your back feels. If it starts to hurt more during activity, back off and rest.
My mother has scoliosis and it has not been a truly great detriment to her activity. Most importantly you should keep yourself informed on the state of your scoliosis and maintain your level of activity accordingly.

Tell your bodily therapist approximately the Schroth procedure within the web sites under. The "typical" bodily treatment or chiropractic is not going to quit development. It demands to be a specialised application. Schroth treatment can as a rule reduce your curves in part at your age. forty five levels or so is sufficient to intent quandary, however at 20 you're no longer going to be a cripple although it is fully untreated. Surgeons are going to advise surgical procedure considering that is all they know the way to do except prescribe a brace. I could keep surgical procedure as absolutely the final hotel considering its results are irreversible, and plenty can move improper.

it depends on how bad it is... if it's debilitating to your everyday life then yes.. but my brother had scoliosis and still played all sports in high school, and did very well in them.. the only thing he couldn't do was dive into a swimming pool head first.
